Taking first steps with MOS 3.0 - Software apps.
« on: June 20, 2012, 06:00:03 AM »
I'm a new MorphOS user. My previous experience with something similar was back in 1983-1989 with a C64 and later from 1990 - 1992 with an A500.

This year I decided to make a come back to my passion for the Amiga so I bought myself an A1200, A3000 and now I have built a nice MorphOS system around a Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz, VRAM 64, 80 GB HDD. I just isntalled and registered my MorphOS 3.0 and now I would like to start doing something meaningful.

I'd like to know for instance if there is any version of PageSetter or PageStream ported to MOS, or something similar to do some desktop publishing.

In general what other Amiga software packages are available for download and where?

I once read that there is a direct ported version of TurboCalc, where can I find it?

Finally, how can I use or what do I need to do to be able to use .adf files (packages)?

MorphOS 3.9 in Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz, PowerBook & Power Mac G5
Acer Aspire One with AROS Icaros Desktop 2.1.1 &
MiST FPGA Minimig Amiga AGA Workbench 3.9 PFS3 configuration.

If you have not already check out these sites

http://www.morphzone.org/

This has lots of software

http://morphos.lukysoft.cz/

You will also want to install "Pack ultimate" , but i believe they are just finishing off the version for 3.0.  This is basically a software package that installs loads of usefull software.

I forgot to mention that I have a license of Amiga Forever Plus Edition in a CD, would that work with MorphOS 3.0?

You do not need an emulator. You can mount .adf disk images as ordinary disks. For this you use system tool FileImageCtrl. Launch it, select an empty unit, then use "Insert". You have a virtual device now, but not a disk volume yet. Launch another system tool Mounter, select fileimage.device unit used just before and click "Mount". Voila, your ADF is mounted as a disk.

Hi Krashan, this sounds good, but please bear with me since my experience with MOS3.0 amounts for less than a day so far. So I copy my adf file in a place like the RAM disk, then I follow your steps? Could you please guide me through taking into consideration my almost ZERO experience? Thanks

Krashan, I tried your method of mounting adf files and it works just fine. Unfortunately the two downloads I have tried so far, just testing, didn't work (PageStream old version 2.4X and SimEarth). I will keep trying with others. Thanks again for your help.

Would it be possible to start a thread with a list of old Amiga software, available in adf format that can be installed, mounted and run in MorphOS 3.0?

Or maybe there is one already......?

ADF is just a "carrier", a great deal of 68k SW works, including office apps, etc.

Here is a list of some SW (both PPC and 68k) that I guess has been tested:

Most require a manual install I guess (and some needs some "tweaking"), but that's always the best anyway...
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Wow! Jackpot! Thanks takemehomegrandma! I've never seen this list before. Can't wait to start trying them out on MOS3.
