New to Morphos Questions
« on: April 17, 2012, 01:24:07 PM »
Hi all -
Just got a G4 Mac Mini to install Morphos.   I have a couple of questions.

What is the duration of the license that is purchased?  If I buy now, will I get 3.x later this year or should I just wait for 3.x?

Are there any good guides to starting software development in Morphos?   If so, can you please point them out.

I apologize for the newbie questions.  I would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Absolutely, if you register 2.7 now, the registration will be transferred for free to 3.0 *for that particular Mac Mini*! :) (Yes, the key file is tied to individual machines, not users. Also, it's said that there will be a small price drop on older machines such as Mac Mini when 3.0 is released, but I have no idea of by how much, or when that will happen)

You download the MorphOS SDK from here: http://www.morphos-team.net/downloads
Some good introductory articles about MorphOS (scroll down to "Development") are found here: http://library.morphzone.org/Main_Page
I think many of the general Amiga documentation applies, and may be good to have at hand?

Feel free to ask question on http://www.morphzone.org or on IRC for best attention (maybe someone will see your question if you ask them here as well?)

Also, if you are looking for general apps to use on your MorphOS, have a look here:
http://morphos.lukysoft.cz/
http://www.morphos-files.net/
http://mos.aminet.net/

A way of quickly getting a full-blown set up, configured, and with lots of applications pre-installed is to use Pack Ultimate from Papiosaur!

Have fun! :)

I understood it would be for "lower end" machines (Efika, Pegasos 1 etc. - maybe some lower end macs)

NOTE: I'm not sure about this (I think I read that elsewhere) but those are definitely the first models I'd give discount on before the overall nicest desktop systems

-EDIT-

Here's the relevant post: http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8121&forum=9&start=18

And here's the relevant quote:

Older machines like Powermac, Mac Mini and Pegasos will see a little reduction in the license price... a little less.
So after all, it would seem to apply for Mac Mini too.

Also, I think the license is currently sold for discount, maybe they will keep the price as-is, and raise it for PoweMac G4?

I assume you meant raise it for the Powerbook.

Thanks.

trust me you will not regret a single bit for buying MorphOS. I am registering it by the end of the month and it will be worth it.

One question guys, can you guys send me a list to all the coolest NATIVE MorphOS ONLY games designed for MorphOS only and developed for MorphOS only and not ported games, please? It would be cool to have fun with it! Thanks in advance.

Grats on your new machine/OS - MOS is a lot of fun.

From what I understand, the 3.x upgrade will be a free one if you were to choose to register 2.x now.
