AmiWest 2002 UGN Press Release
« on: July 19, 2002, 12:48:09 AM »

The UGN invites YOU to join us at the AmiWest 2002 show.  This year we will begin the broadcast at 11:00 AM PST (GMT -7) on Saturday the 27th and cover the show till it ends on Sunday the 28th at 4:00 PM PST.

Like shows in the past the UGN will be using Shoutcast technology to deliver live audio to Amiga users round the world.  To listen to the audio visit the AmiNet and grab a shoutcast compatible program.  The UGN recommends the Mp3 player built in to OS 3.9 with BB2, for more information visit ugn.amiga.org.  For the webcam images the UGN uses ImageFx from Novadesign, AmFTP from Vapor, and Miami from Nordic Global Inc.  This show we are planning to have 4 camera's covering the show floor!  Tune in and see more of AmiWest then ever before!  To view the webcam you can use a browser or a webcam viewer from the Aminet, see ugn.amiga.org for more details.

Participating at AmiWest 2001 will be very special this year.  Durning the broadcast we will have ICQ available as we have in the past AND I will connect my cell phone in to our broadcast system to allow direct phone in interviews with the guests!  Since this is the first offical time we are using this technology the rules are simple, the caller assumes all costs incured during the call and we will NOT tolerate any personal attacks or profanity of any kind.  This is a service for the Amiga Community to provide access directy to the people who are working hard to return the Amiga to what it once was and more, it should not be abused.  The website will be updated soon with more information about calling in.  When participating with ICQ we ask that you send us your real name and location so that we can give you credit for the question.  For the Amiga the UGN recommends "STRICQ," it can be found the Aminet or from ugn.amiga.org.  To add the UGN to your ICQ friends list use the ICQ# 112800234, ICQ nick "UGN".

Just wondering, how many people would call my cell phone, 408 area code, to speak with Bill McEwen during the interview?

ICQ will be running, but calling in gives you the chance to have a dialog with the guest.  You certianly don't have to call in if you don't want to :)

Gee, is it that time o year again for the AmiWest show? Well, guys guess you know where I'll be that weekend. No, not at the show....physically. I'll be propted in front of my beloved A3K listening to Shoutcasts and scooping up webcam pics! Hope the coverage is better than the Maryland show in the Spring-didn't see a single Robot battle!!

I think the interview with Duan went well and I tried very had to get
the coverage of the robot fight.  The booth was about 75 yards away
behind two sets of doors and none of our wireless solutions had enough
power to get out there.  Had I known in advance where the robot fight
was going to be I would have made arrangement's to atleast get the
webcam out there.

I hope to have more solid coverage from AmiWest but it's just no very
easy.
