Quake on ECS
« on: March 14, 2005, 01:09:35 AM »
Just wondering if anyone ever attempted a port of QuakeI on the ECS chipset???  I know it's been done for Doom and other fps games like Gloom, NemacIV, etc. have EHB modes.  I'm sure it's possible, perhaps a tad slow but then again, there are 68060 boards for the A2000 and A3000.  Maybe if someone makes a 68060 A600 board some day......

Anyone seen this page?

My guess is that the HOL page is either wrong, or refers to the then-illegal port of Quake that was done with leaked source code (long before ID released it - before the clickBOOM port was even announced, I think).

I don't know for sure if it was ECS compatible, though.

What on earth would be the point of porting Quake to an obsolete chipset that will only run it on 2 fps??  :-?

Actually on ADoom, it runs about the same speed at the lowest resolution of 320X200.  Be it Native or P96/CGFX.  I imagine Quake is the same.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Exactly my point, with a 68060 and lots of FastRAM a 2MB Agnus/SuperDenise setup should work in low resolution (what a shocker since iD was so negative about the Amigas capabilities back in the day...conspiracy anyone?). Just imagine if iD had done Doom and Quake ports for Amiga (like for the Mac) we might be still in business today. ADoom runs very well on a stock 1993 A4000/040 or even a fast 68030 ECS machine (circa 1991).  I still remember the craze the long-awaited Doom and Quake ports made in the Amiga market back in 1998-2000.  But by then arguably it was too late.

Back to reality, not everyone has a graphics card in their machine.  I was just wondering if anyone had done an ECS port and maybe would release it so people could try it, as with ADoom.  I did read the original 'illegal' port of Quake had ECS on it's dubious 'to-do' list.  I wonder if that coder ever did finish something?
