faery tale adventure  (http://www25.brinkster.com/zilog/download.asp?Name=E_Faery Tale Adventure&URL=http://zilog2.no.sapo.pt/download/amiga/Faery Tale Adventure.zip) was a cracking game in its day and still is very enjoyable to this day  :-)

I definitely remember this, I was so impressed reading about it that when I saw it for £22-something instead of nearly £50 I bought it although I didn't have an Amiga! Sure enough soon I had my first A500 v1.2

Like others have said I was blown away as "computers can't do music like THAT" :-)

My second game was Xenon.

even though the music quality was a bit crap there was somthing eerie(spelling?) about it

like i said, it sent shivers down my spine
and it made me feel happy!  :-)

Talin, the guy behind the Faery Tale Adventure game is still around doing cool things. He worked on a MIDI sequencer for BeOS (http://mev.sourceforge.net/), so who knows he may be around to do something cool.. I was thinking a Remix of Faerie Tale Adventure would be cool. What do you think?

Game's he's worked on.. (http://www.jgb.abelgratis.co.uk/PROG/J/JOINER.HTML)

His website  www.sylvantech.com/~talin/ (http://www.sylvantech.com/~talin/)

OMG! That was one of the 1st games I got with my Amiga 1000. I played it on a 12 inch B&W TV.

Still loved the game. I still have the disc and binder stored away!

I was playing that game last night - when the bad doods catch up to me it scares the hell out of me
then they kill me and it scares me more!

Thanks for reminding me of this classic. It was really one of the first Amiga games I saw on the Amiga, even though I wouldn't have an Amiga of my own for years after that...

That game is great! It's surprisingly well done when thinking of its age. There is a huge map, a lot to to do, day/night, RPG elements...and one guy made it all!

The only things I would complain are a bit boring graphics (but they work ok) and frequent battles.

I think I'm gonna finish this game some day   :-)

remember it was done in ~1986! so the graphics were probably seen as quite good back then :-)

the huge map was one of the best parts!! i just love plenty of space to explore - day/night was good too, a bit more realistic

the battles were a bit annoying especially for beginners and players with few/bad weapons - i remember running around for hours from bad guys! because i knew i couldnt kill them!

Yes, it's extremely well done for its age. And save-load feature!

I found a hand-drawn map and tips for FT in early computer magazines. I think the map might spoil fun but I don't have time to explore it all by myself anyway  ;-)

The game seemed extremely hard to get into, but that jade skull in town might help one to get better weapons in the beginning. And there seems to be a lot of chances to cheat but I don't like cheating so I am not going to touch those tips yet  :-D

Any other good RPGs for Amiga? On some page which featured Faery Tale and its successor (for PC), was a mention about Legend of Faerghail (sp?), which was apparently made by Olaf Barthel!

PS. Darth_X, I must agree with you (maybe the first time) - I'd like to see a remix too. But maybe the sequel (Halls of Dead or something?) does the job. Does anyone have an idea what Dafel: the Bloodline would have been?

Ah the venerable Faery Tale Adventure. The wonderful memories. Anyone also play Daggerfall and Entomorpgh, also very well done RPGs.

Probably the only game, other than Larn, that I played to it's completion.

I think I spent about 8 hours of every day for about 3 months, just wandering the map.

I can still answer the rhyming code to open the game too, the one that was written around the map.  :-D

Still haven't found another game as challenging, on any platform.

I had a Faery Tale Adventure for the Sega Genesis. It was really good, and hard to beat... but I'm not sure if it's the same version you are all talking about.

Faery Tale is hard if you play "fairly", but it gets a lot easier if you ride on the turtle and use sword many times, ask help in Chrystal palace and go to city of Marheim to get healing.

It is indeed the same as the Sega Genesis version.  I first
played it on the Genesis and became quite addicted to it for awhile.
I then played the Amiga original several years later and it's great
too.  Fun and involving game, a real classic.

Funny y'all mention this game. I was just talking about it on IRC a few days ago. I have the disk(le original), and got a copy of the map online so I can answer the questions. Haven't played it too much yet, but looks kicking.

I loved that game and just downloaded it. I am running it on an amiga emulator. It starts up fine, it gets to the title screen where it tells the name of the game and the maker and just stays there. Any ideas how to get beyond that?

THIS GAME IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

i had totally forgotten this game until today!! and i am an active gamer on oldschool stuff....jeeez.

i will boot it up later today just to get in a retro state.

anyway this game is in the class of a few other games that i grew up with.... like hybris/battle squadron/defender of the crown/wings etc..

but seriously i dont think i know of a better rpg game than this was for me, even the amazing black crypt didnt break this barrier, but then again that might be only me...

anyway atm i am enjoying another great rpg game and thats TALES OF TAMAR , you guys should check it out as its wonderfull.

cheers

Sorry for being "out of the loop".
I decided to search for Faery Tale in the search engine and came up with this. My mate had an Amiga when we weer about 10 years old and this is the game we ALWAYS played! Memories flooded my mind and I had to search for it.
Now that Paul_Gadd has posted the ADF file...how do I run/play this game? I use Windows XP.
I never used emulators before and really want to play and FINISH this game.

Please advise? Thanks!

Assuming of course you own the original and are using the .adf for convenience, surf to WinUAE.net (http://www.winuae.net) and download the emulator.

You will need access to an Amiga in order to get the ROM image required for the emulator to function. You must own the Amiga in question for this to be legal...

Only at the start of the game are the battles difficult. Once you get to about 50 bravery points you will win most battles.

Best way of getting to 50 bravery points is to try to drown your attackers.  Of course that doesn't work against witches :-(

The worst thing about the game IMHO is that there is only one city and one village, and very few people; a few more would have made things more interesting.

my advice to you is:
1. DONT PMAIL ME EVER AGAIN ASKING HOW TO GET PIRATE ADF'S

2. Find the game cheap second hand somewhere

FYI:

I wasn't expecting to pirate ADF software. I actually didn't know what ADF is 24 hours ago. This is the "out of the loop" comment since I never owned an amiga before and stumbled across the site. So sorry "iamaboringperson" for PMailing you even thought I am naive. I don't have access to an Amiga so I guess I won't be able to play the game anyway. Just thought there was a way to access the game since I never got to finish it on my friends computer.
Once again, sorry.
