A1200 with ACA1221 and 3.1.4 - which icons?
« on: November 07, 2018, 08:32:33 PM »
What are everyone's thoughts on GlowIcons on Hi-Res Interlaced screen on a mildly accelerated (ACA1221) Amiga 1200? Are they usable, or are they really built for RTG/higher res and color bandwith screens? Any other suggestions beyond stock?

The 3.1.4 glowicons are if anything built for mid resolution 32 to 256 colours displays

I've got the same card as you, Polbit, and I'm very happy with using Magic Workbench. Have been my main choice for icons for years. Think they still look great. Best of all, you can run your Workbench in 8 colors, which is very fast, but still have nice icons. :) There are many MWB compatible icon packs on Aminet to download, as well as backdrops.

Hmm, I keep going back and forth between MWB and stock. I spent the time and installed the GlowIcons, but I'm not a fan - the workbench felt slower at 64 colors (to get full color on the icons it seemed), and just didn't like how they looked. Much better at 800x600, but not for a stock AGA screen.

My problem with MWB is how it locks the palette - I like yellow as a highlighter in type-in boxes and as a cursor. The icons are also a little large.

Oh well, 1st world problems :) I'm going to try using MWB for a week and see if I can get used to them. Otherwise it's back to stock for now.
