Is there an easy way to use E-Uae on MorphOS?
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:19:14 PM »
I am used to using WinUAE.

Using E-Uae on MorphOS sucks because you have to use Shell to launch it.

Is there a nice GUI or frontend for it?

Indeed there is, it's called rhLaunch 0.5 beta and can be downloaded here

Fab has included some scripts with e-uae to help launch adf's.

For something like UAE, GUI is rather pointless once you have things configured. The only thing you want is to run games/apps in a transparent way.

So, as said above, you can simply add an action for adf files and then UAE will be started when doubleclicking adf files (it takes 30s, and it's extremely handy). It's also possible to have a 68k binary to run inside UAE with a contextmenu entry in Ambient (but it needs slightly more configuration). All this is explained in the bonus/ directory.

The instructions are not very helpful.. For example there is no SYS/Prefs/Ambient/Filetypes/application folder as standard.

I created one and placed X-Adf in it but nothing happens when i click an ADF.

Any easy instructions step by step?

I installed X-ADF and set it up correctly.

But when i try and click on an ADF i get "Failed to load Kickstart image kick.rom"

It is set up well and i can run e-uae from shell with the exact same paths i have in x-adf.

any ideas?

This directory exists if you have already configured some mimetypes for application family in ambient prefs. Otherwise, just create the directories. But anyway, you can do all this from ambient prefs->mimetypes and editing the application/x-adf node. No real need to copy the mimetype descriptor that way.

As a command string, i have:
run >nil: programs:emulation/uae/uae -f programs:emulation/uae/conf/a1200-hires.conf -0 %sp

All the options being configured in a1200-hires.conf (make sure to use absolute paths, preferably with PROGDIR: for things like rom paths).

Dougal,
Did you ever figure out how to get E-AUE working in MorphOS? I get that same error about not being able to load the kick.rom. How did you solve it? After paying the exorbitant price for MorphOS I am highly disillusioned with it's lack of documentation and support.
Thanks

Not so sure its up to MOS developers to offer support for 3rd party software. Try reading the euae docs. Everything is clearly explained in them.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

fishy,
I agree it is not not MOS responsibility to document E-AUE except that one of the features mentioned on MOS site is that it will run Amiga apps. It does not, without 3rd party SW. At any rate, the MOS documentation is lacking, oh wait... there isn't any. That is what I was referring to. For nearly $200.00 It ought to have at least rudimentary documentation.

No matter about that though, Can you tell me how to get E-AUE working? If not, then observe who the comment I sent was directed to.

The documentation volunteer has been away from home on vacation for a few weeks.  Sorry, I'll get to work on updating the MorphOS2.x docs later this week.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

@jimh54
Had you read things properly you'd have seen its system friendly amiga software that works in MOS, not hardware hitting software, which pretty obviously wont work being that said hardware doesnt exist in MOS machines. Personally if I was to spend "nearly $200" on something Id probably take time to learn what it is Im buying.

As for EUAE, sure, as I said the documentation in EUAE explains pretty clearly how to get it working.  Maybe try reading them, it's what theyre there for. Docs/configuration is where all the important stuff is as far as configuration goes.

First, which E-UAE archive did you use?
If you got mine, there's at least an explanation and default config files for A500 and A1200, "workbench" usage, and so on.

So, if you use them, just have kick.rom (A1200 3.x) and kick13.rom (A500 1.3) in the Roms/ directory, and from shell, you can type (from UAE directory):

e-uae -f conf/A1200.conf -0somedisk.adf -1someotherdisk.adf

If you need to configure things, have a look at the different config files in conf/.

Finally, you can bind UAE to Ambient with its mimetypes, which means you can start any adf by simply doubleclicking it. But we'll see that when you at least get UAE to work.

There's a useful muirexx gui for games and stuff like that.

I'm doing a mui gui too but not too fast so I don't know when will it be finished, atm I have 90% of mui options "drawn" and I'm writting the code to read the settings from the gui and change the gui depending on the loaded settings. It won't be a launcher but a GUI. I will probably make it appear with F12 as I hate the strange shortcuts used by EUAE.
