Morphos / OSX dual boot - Too many problems - Help?
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:43:31 PM »
Ok, I have a Power Mac G4 which runs Morphos fine.

I installed OS X and created a 2.something Gb partition + a 60Mb Partition. Of course there is also the OS X partition.

I booted MorphOS cd and it booted up fine.

Further than that too many problems. I found a PDF guide but still had problems.

Is there some easy way?

I want to have the Mac as a dual boot OS X and MorphOS machine.

It currently has OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). So no boot camp. And it cannot run Leopard because its 466Mhz.

So from what i am reading here, 2 hard drives is the best option.

Instread of an external... can i just add another internal hard drive ?

Have one hard drive with OS X and the other with Morphos ?

To choose my boot hard drive i would just have to hold down "C" like when i want to boot of CD ?

Can the second HD be the one with MorphOS ? as OS X is already installed on the factory (first) hard drive and i dont feel like installing it again.

Is the drive correctly jumpered (master / slave)?

I suppose so. I did CS (Cable Select). The drive was found

I think i had a faulty ram chip as even OSX was crashing when i would go on youtube although it was marking 768MB ram like its supposed to. Gonna try again.

EDIT: Nope... OSX is now fine but Morphos is still crashing when trying to install :(

The computer just freezes... No error messages .. Nothing

I have tried the option of SLAVE rather than cable select. I have not tried Rich's option of switching hard drives yet. Will try that later.

Now its worse. When booting the MorphOS cd i get the MorphOS logo as normal and when it comes to that window where you select the language, keytype etc it looks terrible like the window is black and cant see the words or buttons.

I am trying the dual boot of the same drive again. The problem is that STUPID PDF guide i used said that there has to be a 60MB partition.

But then it shows a 64MB partition when installing MorphOS.

When i try and click on the partition to install (the 60MB) like it says in the guide i get a "Invalid partition Layout!" and some crap about the sector range.

This is dumb! I followed the instructions perfectly.
