Amiga Hardware Issues and discussion / Re: XSURF 100 - Poor Performance?

If you have taken the jumper off. Then it’s set to Z3 (Zorro 3) which is the correct speed setting for the A3000 and A4000.

I use a X-Surf100 with the RoadShow TCP/IP stack. Runs fast!

You do have the jumper set correctly on the X-Surf? I.e not set to Z2?

I recently watched the video on...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5ixZhIxMus

This is about buying old PC graphics tablets and using them with an Amiga by adding adapters and a special driver.

I ended up buying an Aiptek Hyperpen 6000 tablet which was new old stock, complete with some old AAA batteries still in shrink wrapped plastic packaging, especially because this model has been described as definitely Amiga compatible.

I bought this tablet from eBay, because I wasn't able to find any other tablet mentioned in the video. There were lots of old Wacom tablets available, but it wasn't clear which ones would work. I didn't like the advice that MOST Wacom Serial tablets would work, apart from Intuos models.

I plan to use this tablet with Deluxe Paint, although the video doesn't recommend this, due to lack of pressure sensitivity. I have only ever used Deluxe Paint with a mouse before, so this doesn't matter to me.

So far, I've bought a 9 pin serial to 25 pin serial adapter, as well as a PS/2 to USB adapter. I inserted a recently bought AAA battery into the pen, I booted up my Amiga with the Aiptek tablet plugged in to the Serial port, then I connected it to the mains and a light on the tablet next to where it says F1 lit up. This was all I was expecting to happen at this stage. I need to install the FormAldiHyd driver from Aminet to get it to work. Unfortunately, when I was testing the pen that came with it, which has no wired connection to the tablet, the tip which makes contact with the tablet got depressed and pushed in, but now won't return to its previous extended position. I hope I haven't broken it. There is no light on the pen. I don't understand why it requires a battery. I can't see how it would transmit any data wirelessly. It also comes with a battery powered 3 button mouse, but I don't see any point in using this, because the whole point is to get away from drawing with a mouse.

As for installing the driver, I have downloaded it from Aminet onto my MacBook and copied it onto a FAT32 formatted CF card. I recently installed FS-UAE, but I haven't used it recently. I found that it couldn't detect either of my AmigaOS CF cards, which are in SFS and PFS formats. I set these cards up using Linux.

Can anyone give me any advice about completing this setup and what might go wrong? Unfortunately, the artist Mixel who made the video hasn't replied to a question of mine from a few weeks ago.

Amiga Events / Re: Los Angeles Maker Faire 2024, April 6

The LA Maker Faire is edging closer, and our Classic Los Angeles Computers (CLAC) tables now have the computers to be exhibited -- an Ultimate 64, an Amiga 3000, a Commodore PC20-III, and from SCCAN member Jerold K., a brown C64.  The computers will be set up for gaming, except for Jerold's which will be set up for music production/creation.  See you soon at the LA Maker Faire!

Amiga Hardware Issues and discussion / XSURF 100 - Poor Performance?
« Last post by Ancalimon on March 17, 2024, 11:18:35 AM »
Using the 060-66 and OS3.2+Easynet Pro or OS3.9+Genesis, I get less than 50kb/sec. Using 604e 400 and Os4.1FE, I get around 200kb/s~250kb/s downloading from Turran FTP.

Is there any trick to increase speed?

Amiga Hardware Issues and discussion / Re: Amiga 3000 cold power on issues
« Last post by Betelgeuse on March 16, 2024, 09:58:08 PM »
Figured it out, should've thought of that at the beginning so I feel pretty dumb about it, lol! One of the EPROMs that has Kickstart 3.2.2 doesn't like being cold in combination with CSMkII, hi-rom specifically. Not sure why, both are identical and I replaced previous 3.1 ROMs with these. Warming just U181 makes the machine boot every time. Putting in original 3.1 ROMs also makes it boot every time with the CSMkII, even from cold boot. The combination of this particular EPROM and 3.2.2 and CSMkII makes it not work when cold booting. So nothing wrong with the A3000 itself thankfully! What an annoying issue!
