Very cool!
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

I've always wondered about doing this..

I'm interested to see how you go with the battery requirement.  There are some pretty good battery capacities out there now..

Does anybody know how much power an A600 motherboard consumes?

Nice job vingttrois. Good luck.
I remember speaking to Simon Archer (Rigo) about "Suzanne" his 1997 portable A600 project.

Nice, something I wanted to do if I ever had found a fitting donor case :)
The A600 can't be pulling much more then 25w (I should measure this some day) + peripherals  so with today's batteries you should be able to get a respectable run time on a portable A600 + a decent LCD panel.

Do not forget to build a correct charging circuit depending on battery choice. Will look forward to seeing more pictures on this.

Yech - maybe (hopefully) it's not done yet, but it looks like someone tried to cram 10 pounds of Monkey plop into a 5 pound bag.

I've never measured it, but one thing's for sure (at least with my Amiga's) - A600's run HOT. They give off an awful lot of heat when compared to an A1200.

I measured it.... I don't remember

But, the 12volt rail sits at around 100ma, increasing to 300ma or so from memory, when the floppy drive is accessed.

And with my CD rom drive, I need about 3amps on the 5 volt rail as the drive spins up, but under normal use, I can only assume it was less than 2amps, but as I said, I forget :P

So, for a base system, assume about 15watts ;)

I like this concept. Will there be the option to use an external keypad?

I hadn't noticed that.  I'll have to have a look at my A600's + A1200's again and compare!

I suppose you could sink the heat to the portable's chassis somehow.  I can see it's already got some metal in there.  It would be nice to keep the whole thing passive.

Then weight starts to come into it.  It does say "Portable", not ultra-light! :)
