A1200 networking questions
« on: March 29, 2003, 03:17:55 AM »
Ok folks. The 1200 got here today and I thought I had a fully compatible pcmcia card for it but it just locks the machine up. It was an old 10mb/s d-link.

What pcmcia card should I use and where can I get it? Is there a serial connection alternative for connecting to a Windows box?

After getting the card, I am going to need to install the driver. I can get it from Aminet and copy them to a 720k floppy.

Will my amiga read the 720k format and how do I do that?

After driver installation, it would be nice to connect to the internet. I am quite familiar with how to network on PC but it seems I may need some software to get the 'miggy' to connect via tcp/ip. If I can get FTP working that would be great. I run an FTP on my big Athlon.

What do I need to get TCP/IP and FTP working?

thanx for the advice. formatting a dos disk with crossdos is invaluable info.

I'm having trouble finding DD floppies except on ebay. I found that my Win95 machine will not format a 1.44M floppy as a 720K. I'm thinkin I can solve that problem by placing some tape over the hole on the left of the disk.... haven't tried it yet. I had some trouble with HD disks on my A500 but I think I may have solved it by replacing the drive... still not sure though. I have seen on Toms (Tweeks) website that HD disks give people trouble. Sorry for the long explaination but can anyone add info on that?

baring problems with PC floppy to amiga, I have a Linksys 10mb/s card coming that is ne2000 compatible and (hopefully) cardbus I. I don't know the model number but do you think the cnet driver will work with it?

on miami: have heard something about a key. What is it? do I need it to use FTP? can I get genisis without a key? What FTP client do i need?

Ok... When I get this working, I'm going to post a Tutorial on it. For now (since no one else is getting the point) all further questions will be in the appropriate lobby.

My fault for not posting in the appropriate lobby to begin with.
