FS: Complete A1200T or individual components?
« on: April 20, 2012, 12:39:29 AM »
I'm in the process of cleaning up my Amiga 1200 tower setup in order to sell it, but as I've been pretty far removed from the Amiga scene that I'm honestly not really sure what my best course of action would be - to sell the system as a whole, or to sell off the individual components?

I realize that the 060 card should sell easily enough, but I'm just not sure about the rest of it.  I'd hate to have the 060 being the only thing that sells and have the rest of the tower taking up space if I chose to part with the components individually.

Essentially what I've got is an Elbox/Winner PowerTower that contains:

* Escom Amiga 1200 NTSC motherboard with 3.1 ROMs.
* Blizzard 1260 060/66Mhz accelerator with 64MB 72-pin EDO RAM
   + 1230 SCSI Kit with another stick of 64MB 72-pin EDO RAM.  (No cable for the 25-pin external port.)
* ZIV Zorro II daughterboard
    + Highway USB Zorro II card (missing one of the internal USB cables, 8-pin IDC header to the external port for the backplate)
* Mediator ZIV PCI busboard (whether buying the Mediator ZIV PCI board separately or with the entire setup, the MMCD will be included)
    + Voodoo3 PCI GFX card
    + Soundblaster 128
    + RTL-8139 Ethernet
* ZIV FastATA card
* 40x Memorex ATAPI CD-ROM
* 3.5" 880KB floppy

One issue with this setup is that the Voodoo3 produces corrupted graphics under P96.  This is the second Voodoo3 card that I've had in this machine, and the first one I had gradually did the exact same thing until it was replaced by this one, which over time eventually ended up the same way.  I suspect that it's likely a problem with the Mediator itself and not a software issue, but I have no way to verify this.  However, all other cards - including the RTL-8139 and the SB128 both of which require the Voodoo card to operate - work fine.

Any suggestions, advice, or offers would be welcomed and appreciated.  I'd be glad to answer any questions and will post pictures once it's been cleaned up a bit (I feel I should note that I was a cigarette smoker during the time this machine was in day to day use.)

** EDIT ** Since I've been asked a few times, I'm located in the USA in Upstate NY (near Syracuse).

I can't say that I do.  While I know that the 060 card will still fetch a fair amount these days, I couldn't really harbor a fair guess as to the worth of the rest of the setup.  I really don't see many Mediators or ZIV boards up for sale to know what's a fair asking price.

I would be interested in the ZIV PCI board and the PCI cards as a bundle if you decide to part it out.

I have a similar setup minus the ZIV PCI board.

If it's parted out the cards will come with it along with the MMCD.  However, do note that this is the second Voodoo card that succumbed to graphics corruption (which occurred gradually over many months) so the Voodoo3 that is currently in there is not usable as a display under P96, and that replacing the Voodoo3 may very well result in the gradual corruption of the new card.  The Voodoo card does however allow the usage of cards supported by the MMCD drivers - both the SB128 and RTL-8139, as well as a TV card that used to be in the setup.

maybe it needs a 5v PCI card and not a 3.3?

I don't know as e-mails to Elbox weren't very helpful considering that by the time the second card went the Mediator was presumably long out of warranty.

While I'm not entirely sure about the first card as it was pulled from a PC, I bought the second card from redrumloa which would lead me to believe that this probably wouldn't be the case with the second card.

that might help to identify if the card is 3.3 vs 5v

i honestly don't know much about it. I was just trying to think of something that would slowly burn out a video board.  I did have a ZIV(i used CV64/3D) and later a g-rex (voodoo of some sort) but that was a long time ago. hopefully someone with some fresh knowledge can help you get that issue resolved.

Here are some photos:

1) Inside of tower with most of the accessories removed.  Visible are the ZIV busboard, the Mediator busboard, and the FastATA in the top ZIV slot.

2) Mediator MMCD with PCI cards: Voodoo3, SB128, and RTL-8139

3) Highway USB card and Poseidon drivers.  (Note that the version of Poseidon on this disk - v.2, I believe- and drivers are long out of date and should be upgraded.)
