Been keeping a beady eye on this thread and reckon it's time for a few words of wisdom. I reckon as one who as visited Amiga.org on a couple of occasions and having been to AmiBay once, I can offer a fair and totally  unbiased perspective on this little matter... :)

Here's my two bobs worth anyway... :)

Amiga.org: A place where you are free to wander the hallowed halls of accademia & great learning at will, where you can sit in on any class you choose and say your bit no matter how unrelated it is to the subject in hand, without fear of being escorted off the premisses.

A place where the moderators/carers gently point you in the right direction when you have a sudden bought of uncontrollable Tourettes Syndrome they sit you down in a nice quite room with some soothing words of wisdom until it passes, then set you merrily on your way again with a nice lollipop to roam freely once again at w
ill. :)

Amibay: A dank and dark institution where the moderators/wardens if they find you even setting foot outside your cell or if they even think your thinking of wandering off freely down it's creepy & dangerous corridors, will soon have you locked up in solitary confinement never to be seen or heard from again. :(

A place where in order to sell your warez you have to have your background thoroughly checked by the KJB and FBI and spend at least six months in Guantanamo Bay before you can even become a member. Once a member though anything you do manage to sell can have you banned or become one of the vanished if it's found out later on that you once stepped on a crack in the pavement or if it's found out your pet dog once had a bout of worm
s. :(

There we have it a totally fair and unbiased view from an innocent bystander who has no real opinion on this matter anyway and would never even think for one minute to get involved in such a thing... :D

I was wondering why you did not show up here yet :D

Did you resell the accelerator on amibay for the same price that you paid for it or did you put it on another auction site without a fixed price?

Sure, no problem. I'll be happy to state it. I got it for $125 and it was sold for $199.
BTW I had the board over a month before selling and it didnt suit my needs. How is that difficult to digest?
Thats NOT the point. The point is how can some entity tell an amiga person when to sell what to sell, how to sell, who to sell to, and where to sell it/ Or buy for that matter?
I believe in mt. Fuji

Well guys I'm glad I started this thread. Iniitially it was to find parts for my new a4000d build. However, I'm glad that over 1k people will have viewed this thread and the politics of amibay have been exposed. (BTW I said "fascists" not socialists.. and whatever moron posted the insulting a anti-american statement really deserves the abuse from Arkhan below. I'm sure i"M FAR more educated than you are, so save your foolish comments.

Dont you guys get it? With your arrogant, elitist, i'm a real amigan your not, i'm european you are an american so you dumb mentality you BRING OUT this in people. You FORCE people to lose their cool with you due to your poor attitude. Especially in a small community like this.  You really should be ashamed of yourselves and should rename "amibay" to something without AMI because not letting people have FREEDOM OF CHOICE you dont deserve to be called AMIGA anything.

Man I WISH I had the PMs from you so the real Amiga people can see the people like you who rule Amibay are tyrants.   Now, whats funny is , in the start of the thread one of the mods there said he would try to help me.. I have not heard one thing from anyone from amibay in regards to my "case"

He was cool, but the other amibay people that have come forth have exposed themselves and their true agendas. To form a small elite boys club of amiga fanboys who want to control what other Amiga people do in the marketplace. This is obvious now.

And I'll tell you this I'LL TAKE EBAY OR AMIBAY ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! Ebay has the best buyer protection you can have. BElieve me as a seller as well, I've lost a few cases to shady buyers who said their board didnt work or whatever, got a refund and kept the merchandise! So ebay is very protected to buyers.

Its a real CRYING SHAME that the once great AMIBENCH, which was a cool community website for regular guys trading amigear. Now, its some kind of weird twisted, maniacal, big brother, egotistical trading place. That is such a shame to see an amiga site turned into this. How lame...

This thread seems to reveal the overall problem of the Amiga "community" these days.
It's sad. Seems like nobody's looking at the big picture; in the eyes of the big public
we're basically a dead and buried platform and this sort of boyclub vs boyclub
warmongering and sensationalism doesn't do any good for any of us.

Amiga was part of the big public & mainstream and we're the last ones left of the huge
userbase the Amiga once had. If Amiga is to completely vanish from existence, is this
what we want to be remembered of as a community? Does a community with this kind
of capability of internal self-hate and flaming be able to function as a community at all?

These are the questions I ask myself when, after hours of having fun and enjoying
of using one of my Amigas I turn to read Amibay and Amiga.org and find this thread.

Was it like this back in the day? BBS vs BBS? I honestly don't remember, although
as an ex-sysop I tried to co-operate with other BBS systems as thoroughly as
possible since power comes from numbers not individuals.

I approve Amibay and it's rules and philosophy of existence. I also approve Amiga.org,
although I haven't been here often since I found Amibay.

The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few. If we are but a few
smaller communities within an Amiga "community" there will never be many of us.

My 0.05 cents of worth and purely offtopic as what comes to a WTB-thread.
Sincere apologies.

I think the Amiga as we knew it is dead and never coming back, so everyone should get on board with the rest of the 'old ass computer' groups and live it up like they used to, instead of trying to over do what they can do with the amiga.

I also think sites that dictate how youre allowed to sell your stuff are retarded and whoever came up with it should be tied to a tree and have rocks thrown at their face.
I am a negative, rude, prick.

Let me clarify my smiley.  It was late, and as a card carrying "grumpy old fart," I needed my sleep...  ;-)

I wasn't commenting at the punctuation mistake.  Those are no big deal.  They happen all the time, and I'll make several I'm sure in this post.  ;-)

It was the irony (sweet sweet chocolate covered irony....  mmmm..) of the mistakes (not just that one, although it's location to the statement was too good) in relation to the statement about being "more educated."
Now, I'm not a fan of condesension in general.
I don't think someone's level of education has any bearing on the matter.
But, you have to admit, pairing that type of statement with myriad mistakes in a post is funny...
Let me put it this way, if one of the admins of Amibay had posted that type of response, what would you have thought of it??

But I'm not pointing out anything about you, just the post..  I post stupid things frequently.  When pointed out (after a bit of a breather), I can appreciate that it happened.  Doesn't mean anything about me as a person, just that I made a dumb/funny/whatever post.

I just thought that the particular post was ironic and funny...

As for Amibay, I'm a member.  I'm also a member of lots of other sites...
I've done things that I've been talked to there for breaking the rules...
I don't agree with all of their rules; and I do think that some of their rules are too strict...

However, funny thing about that is that they are rules..  Rules which are posted and I was not only asked but implored to read before making deals there...

So when I ran afoul of the rules, my reaction wasn't to say "Bite me fascists!"  (Not saying you did that of course!)
It was to take responsibility for my own mistake in breaking the rules and to apologize.

If I went into a library and started laughing out loud and was approached by the librarian, I wouldn't be upset with that person.  I certainly wouldn't complain to other people about how crazy it is at the library because they kicked me out of the library for violating the rules..
I might suggest that the library consider loosening up their policies...
I might stop going to that library...
I might complain about the rules of the library.

But I'm not going to complain about them enforcing the rules that I was (or could/should have been) aware of, but broke anyway...

That's not "them," that's "me."

IMHO...

When I first joined amibay, I thought it was e-bay for the Amiga.  I learned very quickly that it isn't.  There I things I like about their ideology.  There are things I don't.  I've come to accept them for what they are (same with e-bay).

I think there's room for them in this community, which I disagree is dying.

Please proceed to tear apart my post with reckless abandon.

:-)

desiv

p.s.  Yes, it was pretty bad, even back on the BBS days.  I remember the fights on FIDONET about memory protection involving Matt Dillon and others...  There have always been passionate Amiga cliques...
