Interesting.  Anybody have any experiences they wish to share using this?

I wonder why this kind of device is more established on the market.

I am thinking you could make a fortune selling such a device on the Amiga market where you can put ADF/DMS on a memstick and load it on a real Amiga.

Ok, maybe not a fortune, but I guess it could sell really well, and better than well if it supported more hardware.

That's what I was thinking as well.. memory card with DMS or ADF images.   Maybe have a simple firmware that boots to a menu first and allows lets you select the image to boot.  But then how would you handle changing disks?   You'd need a switch on the device to toggle between preset images.

It would have been great if it read adf images from flash memory.... but hooking it up to a PC... meh.

Yeah, hooking it up to a Windows machine is lame :-(
SD card like minimig would be cool and get my order.

If you go to HCX's official site you can see that they have designed a flash based solution... they should have made a run of those instead!

I wonder why they've chosen the silly hook upto PC design to produce over the other?

I need to have my say on this one as well. I agree that the MMC based version would be *MUCH* more popular than the USB based version. I have a 1541 Ultimate for my C64 and it is a damn good product - so good in fact that i don't actually own any floppy disks anymore - and a similar device for the Amiga would probably mean the same thing (bare essential backups/originals)!

I have been waiting keenly for a production run of the MMC based version, but it seems runs of the USB version are what is happening. I suppose this is more aimed at those producing them to sell - why? Why o why?

*EDIT* - I just emailed the seller to ask "why?". We'll see what they say.

There are probably enough people that have their Amiga's close to their PCs (or laptops) that it's worth looking at...

I had two issues when I was looking at it earlier...

It wasn't read/write, but read only.  Can't tell from the page whether that's changed or not.

Also, it only supported floppy sizes..  I know, it's a floppy emulator :roflmao:, but it would have been nice if it supported a read/write virtual floppy of 10M or so, so you wouldn't need a HD for those who don't have one..  Just a thought.

If it did those, even at about $90 USD, it would probably be worth it, but that is a lot of money.

Of course, if it did those, AND was SD.. ;-)

I will start another thread asking for interest in a flash based version, that way we can then direct the author of the hardware to it and he/she can make up their mind about a possible run.
