WANTED: Any Zorro GFX card
« on: December 08, 2008, 05:43:52 PM »
Just looking to find any GFX card I can put in the a4k to take the strain off my poor old 1084s.  My eyes are flickering constantly.

Anyone got an old card they`d part with for cheap??

Cheers.

(My mum threw out a Picasso II+ that I got for FREE when I was a kid - UNBELIEVABLE to think about that now!!!)

um, easy_john, do you happen to have scandoubler modules for them too? if so, and if OP doesn't take them, would you consider selling them separately? (my CV64/3D scandoubler is broken)
Better sorry than worry.

Do I need to buy a GFX card from the UK, or can I use one from USA, Germany etc?

(I suppose PAL/NTSC/SECAM doesn`t apply for GFX cards, but I still need to check though...)

Whatever you do, dont get Opalvision as it's not a Workbench supported card, its more like a video (pal,NSTC) video painting system, itegrated like the video toaster.

Also stay away from the original retina1 card as it's not supported by Cybergraphics. Retina Z3 is better...Had the oroginal retina for my A2000 back inthe day only to sell it for a EGS spectrum, then CGFX64, and finally CGFXPPC.

I still have the Retina Z3 s-video encoder somewhere...

The Cybervison with the scan doubler attached was great. Best solution out there. I also had an A2320 A2000 flicker fixer in an A4000, that worked too, but the AGA only displayed 12 bit color when using the Flicker fixer card.

The Picasso line of cards from Village Tronic is nice but the fetch a pretty big price tag.

Ask around here, sure someone in the UK/Western Europe will have a spare card they can sell for the right price.

That`s what I had initially thought, but alas, it seems that people like to sell their peripherals to make a good wad of cash, rather than to help a fellow user out.

I`m sure there are many people out there who have spare cards.  I`m also sure there are people who buy them cheap, and sell them for vastly marked-up prices as well.

If I can`t get a GFX card for a reasonable price, I`m thinking about selling all my Amiga stuff, and packing the whole thing in.  It`s just too expensive, and I`m priced out of it unfortunately.  I`m sure there are others.

You'll find something eventually, but it may take a while before the right deal pops up. Keep stalking ebay and the forums... heck, a CV64 sold here for $75 a few weeks back. (Man, was I bummed to miss that!)

I've had a few projects (some ongoing) where it has literally taken years to put the system together the way I wanted. It can be a pretty nerve-wracking hobby at times.
