my emails from him are more entertaining.

@A3kGT:
it would be much easier to read if you deleted out all the ebay trailers etc etc.

Anyone notice this? Is it really possible that this system is as rare as he claims it to be?

The earlier A500s had a Commodore key.  I don't think they're that rare.  The Amiga 500 I had back in the day had a Commodore key and I think my friend's had the same.

It's probably pretty hard to describe any Amiga 500 as rare except for the special editions.

I kind of had a feeling he was probably up to his usual tactics of making something out to be more than it really is.

@A3kGT

Well I hate to admit it but I am on Doomys side on this one.  Actually he was quite descent on his correspondance to you until you attacked him first!  (ie "you suck")  I read the whole thing and he is right, that A3000 is NOT worth $75, especially in questionable condition and leaky battery!  (see my pic gallery, a leaky batt will ruin an Amiga I bet your Amber display is messed up or worse, I got lucky but had to do repairs)  Can you sell it for more than $35?  Maybe but there is no reason to attack him first.  My two cents...

Wow TjLazer....

My old 3000 ran perfectly fine.
the battery had corrosion on it, but I never let it hit the main board. I always cleaned that crap off. Amber display? I haven't had one of those since I went to Amiga from 8088 systems.

I have phoned this RetroGeek guy last summer, and he had been harsh to me over the phone. I was calling him to see if he had an OS for sale or roms to upgrade my amiga with... He just told me that I should donate my old commodore stuff to him. I hung up on his ass.
3x 500\\\'s one works, other two were baught dead for parts. A2000 case only. and recently departed my struggle for a nice desktop. the A3000. Which RetroGeek tried to steal from me.

All I know is I feel sorry for the poor guy who falls for all the hype he's made over this supposedly rare 500 he's trying to sell. For the record, I was looking through my A500 manual, and it actually makes mention of the Commodore key. It just says that it is functionally the same as the Amiga key found on the majority of 500's. It doesn't mention any particular reason why some have Commodore key's, and it doesn't say that it makes those 500's any more special than the rest.

As for the Commodore emblem, the 500 I just bought has something I've never seen before-it doesn't even have the Commodore emblem! Instead, it has the words Commodre A-500. Wonder if I could make a hundred bucks by hyping it up on Ebay? :-D  :roll:

Having read the email thread, it looks like retrogeek was baited with a few you Suck, so his comments back should be taken in the same light.

This guy opporates a store front. A business will always buy items for about half their street value. Otherwise, how else will they make their money.

I must admit, he has good marketing write ups. Nothing wrong with that.

two to eight weeks is a long time, but if it was specified, then why did the buyer not ask about it. When I want something, I always ask for shipping price and time and sometimes pay more for faster shipping. I have also bartered the shipping rate before ;)

I am curious. For those that have bought from him, has the item ever had trouble?

Just my two cents,
S

Its not a real store front. Search Ebay stores-he won't come up, because he's not an Ebay store. He just dresses his auction pages up to look like store fronts.

What I mean to say is that he is trying to function as a business.

However, image is everything and not taking pay pal makes life much more difficult.

I am having trouble understanding the 93.6% -- I strongly believe that the number could be much higher if he just accepted pay pal and shipped much quicker.

I aim to ship the next day and always provide a shipping number and updates, though I must admit, pay pal and ebay together does add up on the fees...
