Title: What does OS4 loads during boot and in which order?
Post by: flaviosr on February 24, 2011, 11:16:44 AM
Ok...
I am still fighting with my OS4 and trying to make it works...
It seems that the Amiga enters OS4 (she pass the 3 coloured screens) but then she hangs... and I do not know why! :(
What does OS4 do (= load) during boot and in which order (including reboots)?
I know it runs the kick file, the startup-sequence, (all?) the libraries in the lib dir... anything else? In which order? When does it reboot?

What does the 3 coloured screen means... expecially the purple one!!!

Thanx

Those colored screens are the kickstart modules getting loaded in. Getting past those is a good sign. Some Flash modules (Algor, Deneb), or, more accurately, their contents, can conflict with them.

I have a hard drive on my PPC SCSI chain that causes OS4 to hang during bootup after the kickstart is loaded. I ended up having to edit one of the files in SYS:Kickstart to disable all units other than 0 (my main drive).

Reading here and there I have found that probably there is "something" in my HW config that does not like to OS4! :(
And I understand that I have "only" to find what it is... uff...
I think now that this seems bad programming... I understand that is very very very difficult to program a SO but I never heard in other OSes such problems... that a certain HD can crash a SO!!! Or other devices supposed to work...
Now I am looking to other Amigas I own so the PPC is in stand by...
