Amiga1200 Keyboard
« on: September 07, 2005, 01:35:14 PM »
I am new to this forum and am not really competant at it yet. I could use some help, however.

I have an old A1200, but the numerical keypad does not respond under any program at all. I am wondering if you need to somehow activate it via a keymap install or by the use of a shift key combination?

I notice a shifted command to activate the numerical keypad, but am unsure if it may be damaged in some way.

I realise this is a rather basic question but I am unsure if the keyboard is damaged in some way.

Thank you :-?

the defauly keymap is built into the rom, so i think you have a partly dead keyboard.

A1200 in original casing
Internal
4.3gb hard drive // 24x cdrom // clock port Hypercom1 // floppy drive
External
3 floppy drives, and a 3 Com Etherlink 3 PCMCIA Ethernet Card

It seems so, nevermind I didn't pay very much for it. Thank you for replying so quickly. :-)

Forgive me if I get the Smiley character wrong, I'm new to this game.

Thanks.

Welcome to Amiga.org

You could replace your A1200 keyboard with a new Amiga 1200 keyboard

Before you do that, open your Amiga an ensure that the green ribbon connector is firmly in place and is not displaced in anyway.  If it is angled and not making good contact, you may experience parital operation with your keyboard as you described.

I have opened the A1200 on numerous occasions and sometimes the keyboard behaves oddly, i.e. Return, Arrow keys not working. Re-aligning the green ribbon does remedy this problem but I have never had use of the numerical pad. It isn't a major loss, just a niggling problem.

I think getting a new keyboard is the best option.

Thank you.

I managed to 'fix' one of our A1200 keyboards with the same problems here by removing the back, cleaning and realigning the green plastic contact sheet

Worth a try.

Cheers mate

I'll give it a try. I've been inside that A1200 so many times I've lost count.

Thank you for your help :-)

I picked one up from the link on the previous thread for about £12. I tried cleaning the original but to no avail.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers mate.
