Can anyone elaborate to me the difference between an a600 and an a1200 (apart from the keyboard.)
Is an a600 as expandable?
The A1200 positive points:
As standard, the A1200 feels about 4 times faster than the 600 and has double the amount of ChipRAM. The A1200 has a clockport and a CPU slot; you can easily expand with Fast RAM and FPU and also a faster CPU if required. A1200 has AGA graphics which is a very nice upgrade over the A600 ECS graphics capability. With AGA you can have photo-realistic graphics (it has a 24 bit palette). You can have 256 colour screens in any resolution, and a special HAM8 mode for a quarter of a million on-screen colours (in any resolution). The A600 is virtually the same as the A1000 from 1985... 32 or 64 colours in 'Lores' modes and only 16 colours in 'Hires' modes, with a 12 bit colour palette. HAM on the A600/A1000 is 4096 colours (Lores modes only). So the A1200 crushes the A600 regarding graphics capability.
The A600 positive points:
It's cute, it takes up less desk space.
Regarding expansion, the A600 can be expanded beyond the capabilities of a standard 1200 nowadays, but I don't believe an A600 can be expanded with PCI or Zorro slots like the A1200 can (via its CPU slot).
Do you want to go for cute or do you prefer the looks of the A1200?
