Description: A3640 caps replaced, some of which were placed on the card in reverse! (polarity was reversed, thus causing faster breakdown of dialectric, and thus causing terminal failure of capacitor)

Tidy work.

I was thinking about doing this to my classic machines but having spoken to a few electronics buffs, I'm not so sure I'd go down the tantalum route now as opposed to using high quality electrolytic caps.

The main reason is that the failure mode for tantalum caps tends to be closed circuit and sudden, whereas electrolytic caps tend to fail gradually towards open circuit.

Of course, if the components are of decent quality and (for electrolytics) fitted in their correct polarity, I guess there shouldn't be any problems.
