Title: stop by the Amiga lounge
Post by: quarkx on July 19, 2014, 08:18:05 PM
Hi, everyone,
I am back after a long hiatus from the org.
I just wanted to say, I "closed" the old website and online store, and revamped things.
The "new" site is sort of like "endgaget" and "the Verge" with cool "geeky" stories and my blogs on the ongoing builds and commission projects I have.- Not just Amiga and Commodore stuff.
Everyday, I have 3 items for sale on the site, Most are "Daily Specials" that END at midnight MST.
I DO offer an XML spreadsheet of the complete list of items for sale (it is being revamped now with "New" stock).....Be warned though, the spreadsheet cost .99 cents but you get $5 off your purchase. Yes, I do get a ton of hate mail for CHARGING 99 cents, but that 99 cents goes to help run the site. I look at it this way, if one is too cheap and offended at spending 99 cents to help run an Amiga site, then there is a 99.99 % chance they would never buy anything anyways.

http://amigalounge.com is the address (no www needed)

stop by right now, I am giving away an Amiga 2000 (World Wide Shipping is included)
I also have an NTSC A4000 for sale, and will be getting at least 3 -A3000's in by the end of August. - Of course 90% of stuff is NTSC because I am IN CANADA. Also, ALL my prices INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING TO USA AND CANADA. I do ship world wide, but because of insane Canada Post shipping, it will cost extra. If you are willing to pay the extra shipping fees, I have no problem sending it.

You wouldn't happen to have a working CPU card for the Amiga 4000 I could buy from you would you?

cool setup on the new site:)

FWIW I recently bought my first A1200T from Glen with no problems & he even took off a barrel type battery that just started to slightly leak acid off an accelerator card without me even asking :)

Because of the recent slash dot link, I have been getting requests to sell my tekmagic '060 card for the A2000- even before my "Titan" is done. So we will see who will put their money where their mouth is LOL
http://amigalounge.com/p42.html

So sorry Amigakid, the Tekmagic is the only accelerator card I have in right now but Aug 15 is the "magic" date. I am getting a van load of new inventory, so we shall see then

I got in my first batch of entries today for the "WIN AN AMIGA 2000" contest. I can say that the creativity level is high, so "just a postcard" is going to be hard to stand out. Keep them coming, and remember, you can enter as many times as you wish.

Tekmagic is shelved until winter.
new blog is up on another A2000 build.
http://amigalounge.com/b274.html

Remember Aug 14 is the day I get a van load of "new" stock in. I have a "pre-order" page up for an A3000, but I am also getting a boxed (not new) A4000, and a boxed A1000 with a derringer '030. if interested is pre ordering any of these, drop an E-mail at the site, not a PM. Sorry, no A1200's are expected in. I also have a complete A4000 Video Toaster system with Video Flyer and SCSI tower - again e-mail if interested.

If you get any well equipped 3000's (or other big box with a FF) in with a NIC card and take trades, give me a shout.  I'm just down the road in RD.

Got a SAM 440 here I may be willing to trade off for an oldie.

Post by: quarkx on July 27, 2014, 02:03:52 PM
Duce,
I have a few A3000's expected in very soon (one boxed!) unfortunately, the only nics I ever seem to get are the old Ethernet (Coax Cable) ones, I also have the boxed (not NOS- but used) A3000 listed for pre-order on my site right now. Price will go up once it arrives.
I sell all My Amiga's pretty much Bone stock, as 99% of people just look at the price, not whats inside.
I am also getting a bunch of Zorro 2 and 3 cards at the same time (aug 14) but I do not have a complete list of those yet.

Oh, Trust me, there will be a ton of pictures up on the site documenting everything, But here is a little project I am working on if I can raise cash -Boxed NOS NTSC a1200's (more than a few). But Shh. I don't want to say too much, as I may not be able to come up with enough cash to get them in..well see.

You guys kill me how you find this stuff.  It's like when Petro T. was selling all those old NOS A1200's that were in the shipping container (or wherever) for the past two decades, lol.  Why can't I ever walk down the street and trip over a couple A4000T's in the gutter?
Title: Re: stop by the Amiga lounge
Post by: quarkx on July 29, 2014, 08:27:59 PM
Mike, because of my website, they find me.
But, a little "teaser" as this could be all for nothing, But right now, I am waiting to hear back on the Amiga stash off a lifetime. A haul that's so big, I would have to go to it, as a consignment deal or such,a load that's so big, they could not ship all of it here to Canada, without investing major cash. (It's way cheaper for me to go to it- that's how much stuff- not just Amiga, but commodore stuff too).
If I could afford a "go-Pro" I would film it all, because by the sounds of it, my iPhone 4's photos isn't going to begin to do it justice. I would want to make a you-tube video of it.
If I leave, it will be in the next little bit hopefully for a few days to actually see the scope of the "project, for I have to be back on the 14th, and of course I will document every bit I can.

But again, this could be all bogus, as I haven't heard back from him since Sunday. I have learned NOT to get my hopes up.

The van load I have coming in has a lot of interesting history to it, so I will be documenting that, for most buyers couldn't give too hoots about it's history, they just care if it's cheap on the wallet. If I don't document it and put it up on my blog, then the story gets lost in time.

Yes, but the waiting around for stuff to actually happen just kills me. Putting some of these deals together can take literally MONTHS and sometimes years, and it feels like nothing is being accomplished. Meanwhile, I am losing out on some great deals, because I just don't have money to pay up front for them, just this morning, I had to pass on 2 Atari falcons and another A1200 with a Blizzard 1240:(  I could have gotten all 3 dropped of at my door for under $300 Canadian this afternoon.
That's why I have the Pre-Order and Deposit options. The Deposit Option makes me hunt down the hardware that people really want and are 100% committed to buy, instead of just saying "let me know when you have xxxx in stock", which I get almost every day for A1200s.

actually, if you compare, my prices are very low, I just include shipping in the prices. But, I guess it's all suggestive. Markets are different world wide, I can almost guarantee that you won't find what I have in North America for the price that I have it that includes shipping at this particular moment in time.

A few photos on more stuff being sent to me today.this should tide you over until the site is up, but I will be posting teaser photos today. The A4000 is supposedly NOS, but the box was opened to check if the unit was there, but apparently not removed from box. The bad thing is this looks like an EC or LC variant of the 040 yep there is some Commodore stuff also.

More photos of the items in transit to me right now. The NOS Amiga technologies A1200 Magic pack comes in a shipping carton with 2 units and just 1 shipping carton is being sent, Thats why the boxes look so minty, as they have been protected all these years. Yeah, I had to take some old atari pong units, but the Intellivision Computer Module is suppose to be NOS too, but the box looks worn.

Nice new amiga porn site. I like it...

I want to buy an amiga 4000 tower someday.  Never had a 4000, 4000t or 3000t...

If my god damn wife would just stop using our money for stupid %&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@! like
mortgage payments, car payments, groceries and bills, I could live the dream and buy this 4000t.

P.S. I agree on the untested prices. "Untested" usually means it does not work and the seller knows that...

You obviously have the capability of testing each item.

Why not do that and double your money? Is it because you KNOW that stuff is dead?
Title: Re: stop by the Amiga lounge
Post by: quarkx on August 19, 2014, 05:13:14 AM
No, in this case "untested" means I just got this stuff in and am going through testing it when I get to it. I offer untested stuff right a way for the  bargain hunters, but once I get to it, the price goes up and a blog also goes up on my site to show that it's working. But this really sounds like trolling.
remember, if you can't say something nice...

Prices are very reasonable anywhere in North America, and outright low for my area.
Title: Re: stop by the Amiga lounge

I honestly believe that SOME people think if they whine, b*tch, and moan -repeatedly on an open forum about prices, like a spoiled child throwing a temper tantrum in a public place, that it will somehow magically make the prices cheaper for them.
The big issue with a forum like this, is people can't believe that the market is different from that in which the live in. The North America market is obviously a whole different market than Europe. Products that were literally DUMPED on the European market, because Commodore couldn't sell them in the USA, now bring a rather big price tag.
I could go on about economics, but I think we should just drop it before this turns into a flame war and the mods have to step in.
I may not like the prices at my local Sears, but I am not going to stand upfront with a protest sign and tell everyone that walks in that their prices are out to lunch. :)

That's a very interesting site! I've been reading your blogs about building or restoring A2000s as well as the other models. Unfortunately, almost all of your stock is NTSC, but I'm in the UK. I do own a 1084D monitor, which I assume is compatible if I connect an NTSC Amiga via the RGBi or composite ports. Can anyone confirm this? The problem is that the vertical resolution would only be 200 or 400 instead of 256 or 512. The monitor controls allow NTSC type games screens to be adjusted to fill the screen, though.

Another issue is that the graphics chip in my PAL Amiga A1200 can be switched between PAL and NTSC. Don't NTSC A1200s and A4000s also have this facility? Can their graphics chips be exchanged for the PAL equivalents?

As for the power supply, I seem to remember reading something about you exchanging a power supply if someone outside North America won or bought one of your Amigas. Was this just because of the weight, or is the new power supply 220-240V 50Hz?

Years ago I really wanted an A2000 because of its expansion slots, but I'm worried now that I may just be playing with old Amigas in the same way my Dad played with old bangers (i.e. used, broken down cars). I doubt I would ever be able to sit in a room with an A2000 with someone else who also had an A2000 there.

As for how to get the money together to buy an Amiga from the Amiga Lounge, I thoroughly recommend the classic Amiga software Personal Finance Manager to plan your spending. Other tricks could be to open a savings account which doesn't allow access to your money at all without at least 7 days' or even 28 days' notice, or if you're outside Canada you could change some of your money into Canadian Dollars, or some other currency which you can't spend locally, such as Euros or US Dollars. Another idea which Amiga Lounge would have to set up themselves is to offer a voucher system, so that buyers don't have to pay all at once. Amigakit has a system like this, but they don't seem to have any classic Amigas in stock.

I am in Canada, so I don't know or have to worry about anything that has to do with PAL. PAL does not exist here, so I can't be of any help to overseas PAL users on PAL Monitors. what I do know is that PAL machines just have to be booted into NTSC mode to work on NTSC monitors.
Sorry
What I do know is that on all big box Amiga's there is jumper somewhere on the motherboard (except the A1000) where that jumper is and if you need to do more than that's beyond my knowledge (and to be honest, not my target market-as it would cost me thousands of dollars to rig up some sort of PAL and European power grid to help you figure it out).
I have had a few PAL A1200s and A600s here, as PAL A1200s and A600s are more common than the NTSC counterparts, these days and far easier to get.
if you have 3.0 ROMS, you just hold the 2 mouse buttons down a boot and boot into NTSC mode.

The power supply thing. I have a contest to win an A2000 on right now. If the winner is overseas, I will remove the power supply and put an ATX converter cable from AmigaKit in to save on shipping. Most A2000 power supplies I have seen are non-switchable from 115W to 220W. I do not carry 220W power supplies as there is no market here in Canada for them. The only things we use 220 for are wielders, stoves and the occasional clothes dryer

All prices listed are in US dollars, as most of my customer base is the US market. October 1 is the date the new on-line store officially opens, and right now, there are 2 paypal "add to cart" one for shipping included to the USA and one for shipping included WorldWide. If we can change currency on the site, we will implement that at a later date

Have you considered buying PAL Amiga stuff locally from ebay.co.uk or even the German EBAY site ebay.de ? There's lots of PAL Amiga 2000s on there. There's no sense in someone from the PAL area of the world, UK and Europe, buying equipment designed for use in NTSC areas like Canada/USA. It would cost you twice as much to ship the item to the UK from here, or more.

All amigas with 3.1 Roms allow you to enter early startup screen and Set PAL or NTSC. AFAIK all commodore monitors support both PAL and NTSC even the commodore 1702 monitors.

Well, I'm sure lots of people outside North America have read your site and are interested in the hardware on there. I thought you were interested in selling to them. Unfortunately, NTSC mode on Amigas means a loss of resolution for people used to PAL Amigas. It seems that my 1084D monitor can accept NTSC anyway. As for setting up a 220V or even 240V power grid, I don't think this would be necessary. I've recently been doing research into generating my own electricity and using non mains sockets to take more control over my life and save money. I'd appreciate any advice on this. The most important point is that this isn't mains electricity. Electricity can be generated by moving a magnet in a copper coil, or by the sun's rays shining on a solar panel. These devices can be connected to a 12V car battery, which I think may be standard across the World. After the battery is charged it can be connected to something called an inverter with a electrical socket that accepts mains type plugs. The inverter converts the 12V DC power into 230V 50Hz power if I buy it locally from a shop called Maplins http://www.maplins.co.uk  or from eBay. Unfortunately, I don't know how long a fully charged car battery can power an Amiga, an Amiga monitor, or a 60W light bulb, but I hope someone on here can tell me. It's interesting that there's some 220V mains supplies in Canada, though. Can't you connect to one?

Unfortunately, I may not be able to afford to buy any of your Amigas, although I'm not 100% sure about this. I plan to enter the competition, but I'm not sure where to write my address as well as have enough space to write or draw whatever I need to as my entry.

I've been looking on http://www.ebay.co.uk and http://www.ebay.de , but there doesn't seem to be much there at the moment, or at least not that I can afford. I often see Amiga 2000 computers in auctions due to end in 6-9 days, but by that time the prices are more than I can afford.

I may have to buy a big box Amiga one piece at a time, but this strategy isn't working either. The items on http://www.ebay.de are often listed as that they will only be sent to Germany, which I think is against EU law and eBay could be fined for this. I often send a message asking if they'll send me these items, agreeing to pay the postage or courier costs,  and they usually agree, though. If I search on the Austrian http://www.ebay.at I usually find that all items listed on there are available to me. I think this is due to the small population so they can get more buyers. The items include stuff from Germany which isn't listed as will only be sent to Germany.

It's good to know that my 1084D monitor supports NTSC.

It would seem logical until you see the power plugs to the 220. it's a whole other connector so people CAN'T mix them up.They have 2 phases and 240V/250V @ 60Hz between the phases (120V/125V phase to neutral).

Yes, just move the J212 jumper from NTSC to PAL and that's it. And if needed, move the 110V/220V switch at the back of the AT power supply to 220V.
If exact PAL timing is required, remove the 28.63636MHz oscillator (NTSC) from Y154 and replace it with a 28.37516MHz oscillator (PAL). The oscillator is socketed on the A4000T boards.

I recall some video hardware (NTSC?) needed more accurate timing than what Alice can generate with the J212 and in this case also the oscillator needs to be swapped.

A4000T looks great!  Man, what is wrong with the shipping people up your way?  Down here in the states my UPS won't even take something if it's wrapped in paper, since paper can rip off (and if the label is just stuck to the paper, you know how it goes).  Beautiful system, shame it's not an '060, but maybe the next one!  ;)

This was shipped from the US, but I don't know how UPS can tear up a package so badly or take so bloody long to "ship" a box up from the states. I thought the days of horseback delivery were long gone. I can almost bet, it would have taken 3 days sooner to walk the package here in a little red wagon. At least UPS didn't charge me  the typical Canadian extortion fees at the door, which they love to do when crossing the boarder. I was expecting to get a COD fee of a grand on this, but when I told them I was "recording" their call from the customs clearing place, and asked them if there would be fees at the door, it probably deterred them.

Just a friendly reminder to please email me directly at the website if you have any inquires. Feel free to use my hotmail address (glenvdb) if you want a response right away as it goes to my phone. I don't log on here all that much and can possibly miss your PM's for days. That and I am usually armpit deep into builds, so I don't even check the lounge's email that much (just a few times a day).

Also, just a quick update on the NOS stuff. The A4000T's are on temporary hold, as the guys in the US figure out how they are going to test them. I suspended orders until they figure it out, it should only be a few more days at tops. I have the one tower here is you absolutely MUST have this and want to jump the cue, but it will cost you double if you don't wish to wait.
We are down to the last 2 NOS A1200's and they were just found last night. These are the HD units with 40Meg drives. There may be more, but I can't guarantee it. The non HD units are all sold- including the ones I had here in Edmonton (and shipped)  All this info is on my blogs in case you missed it.

Love your blogs, glad to give you an extra "bump" here on the forums, not sure how I could ship a hooker to Canada, though.  Also that might be illegal?

na, after a quick check on both Canada Post and USPS, Hookers do not appear to be on their banned item list, so it looks totally legal to ship them through the mail.....

Wow, two SX64's!  Nice find.  Commodore must have made billions of those floppy drives.  I have a couple attached to my machines at home and an unboxed 1541C on a shelf.  Got to love them, decades old, never been cleaned, still work like a charm.

Indeed. Certainly makes sense to put working drives in right away for these NOS Amigas you are selling.

But I also like the idea of being able to repair floppy drives, including the rare 1.76MB HD Amiga floppy drives.

I think you are mixing up the A4000 Towers (but I could be wrong) from what the BboAh says, is that the Commodore tower had the Floppy Drive:   1 x Internal 1.76MB Floppy Drive.
The AT tower just used:
1 x Internal 880K (Actually a PC 1.44MB drive converted for Amiga use)

In this case, it is a Sony drive, which were notorious in that era for just dying from lack of use. We went though tons of them at my old computer shop, but they were dirt cheap also- I think back in '99 we were paying like $5 each if we ordered them by the case.
AmigaKit is probably doing the exact same modifications at AT was doing to their drives, so they are probably the closest thing to the originals as you will find.

More of an assumption than a mix up, the A3000T 040 came with a 1.76MB floppy drive, I just assumed the A4000Ts would also. But C= only made a small number of A4000Ts, so I guess the other companies that made A4000Ts (Amiga Technologies, Quickpak) only used 880k drives?

Shame about the Sony floppy drives. You would think Sony would make a higher quality product, but even back then they didn't! :-(

As far as I can tell from My NOS A4000 desktop, No, it was a option. I have actually only run across 1 or 2 HD floppies over the years on the A4000D.

Both the A4000's I had back in the day (First an '040 model, then an '030 model that I put an '060 and RTG in) came stock with the HD floppies.

I actually bought the A4000 '040 new, then a friend had an '030 one with a 4091 with a large drive he offered to trade me for my '040 model.  Since I was going '060 and RTG anyways, I took him up on the deal.

I just wanted to remind everyone again about the "WIN AN AMIGA" Contest. It has been extended until December 31
http://amigalounge.com/b265.html
Also new stock is being added to the for sale list daily, and a few new blogs have been posted
http://Http://amigalounge.com
The A4000 with the Warp Engine refurbish is 99% complete and the second last blog has been posted:
http://amigalounge.com/b382.html
I still have the 2 A4000's left for sale, one NOS and the other with the Warp Engine! I also put the TekMagic '060 card back up for sale after a lot of people asked. It is priced high, because I am not all that motivated to sell it, unless someone wants to pay the price.

i do have the one tower here, that the parts should arrive and it will be fully running and tested in the next week. This tower has been earmarked for one of the people that put a deposit down on one, but if you positively have to have the first tower and can't wait, you can buy this one "as is" or fixed for $5000 usd. Yes, the price is going up all the time, to take full advantage of the procrastinators, basically the longer you wait, the more money this unit will cost you, or it will be the first unit shipped to the first person who put a deposit down.

wtf?

LOL, yeah I was thinking that seemed a bit steep.  I know you don't want to divulge your sources, but maybe you could partner with someone down here to help get the systems tested/running, if they're not able to get them to you in Canada?  Just a thought, would still love a pic of all these NOS & used 4000T systems.  Think it'd make an awesome photo, wish I could afford one! :)

After meeting Glen in person (http://www.amigalounge.com/b384.html), I can honestly say he isn't getting rich. This guy is simply trying to make a living. He just happened upon a very rare and very finite supply of merch which will help pay the rent for a while.

I'm not surprised he put such a high price tag on that item. He is just testing the waters. I imagine we will all be surprised if he gets a bite. :D
Title: Re: stop by the Amiga lounge
Post by: quarkx on September 30, 2014, 09:10:07 PM
LOL, thanks Steve,
before you all jump to conclusions, the $5000 and soon to be $6000 price is for that ONE and ONLY one tower I have here. That is not the price of the "regular" towers that are down south. I am just trying to take advantage of the "person" who missed putting a deposit down and absolutely, positively has to have the "first" tower available. The regular price of $2,000 and $1,500 for an "open Boxed" unit has not changed.
I am not making a dime off these towers, I am doing it to bring them forward to the community, so they don't end up on Ebay sold to the USA only for some obscene price "untested" and as is.
IF some one was crazy enough to Pay the $5000 for this "first" unit, the money would simply go back into securing 2 more units to be shipped to me and then tested by myself and offered for sale at the "normal" price.
If nobody comes forward and spends that crazy amount of money, it gets shipped off to the first person who put a deposit down for the regular price.

I thought I had made this Crystal clear in my blog post, but I guess I have to do a better job at explaining things.

My awesome sever guy had built an Android app for me to take a photo with my tablet and it will instantly re size the photo, upload it to the server and build a add for the lounge. I just have to input a description and price. I know that means nothing for you guys, but it means fast turnaround in the future.

It's just a loss to Amibay's members, but IF i ever decide to go back, it will just be to delete my membership there.

Good news and Bad news today folks!
Good-
I got a van load of "new" stock in for sale today and I am in the midst of unpacking and going through it.

Hi all,
You have less than 6 weeks to get your entry in on the "Win an Amiga" contest.
http://amigalounge.com/b265.html
But I ask you to please go over the entry requirements. I got a postcard in today with absolutely nothing on it. No information who the entry is from, no address, nothing. The postcard itself wasn't even from the same state as the postmark.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends.
Today we are having a typical winter storm. Up to 40 CM of snow is coming before night fall with 30 KM/hour winds. (that's 16 inches), so today, I am not shipping or going to the post office. I have put a few more odds and ends up for sale on the lounge and even some new Amiga Stuff.

Hi guys,
I just wanted to drop a note saying that the mass majority of my stock will be going up to Ebay  January 1 to make room for more stock coming in. Now, is probably the best time to pick it up with shipping included, as my prices will certainly go up on ebay and not include shipping.

I have dropped some prices over at the lounge for the final 2 days we  are open. Now is the best time to grab these before they go to ebay. I won't be shipping world wide on ebay, just to the USA and Canada.

Remember, we will re-open the online store with new stock in February.

good luck with your new site and stock.

Read the little blurb you wrote about the poor showing of postcards for the Amiga give away & could only imagine that the majority of Amigans active on the sites you advertise on have a few miggies already running AND also a few spare parts so adding yet another' unknown' part into the mix isn't too intriguing to some hardware junkies even if it's free...of course that being said I'm also surprised you didn't get more entries from newbies or guys coming back into the scene with no 'real hardware' ?

ah well I suppose this is just a little bump to those that fit the last sentence above to send in your entry to win some free Amiga hardware ASAP:)

Not yet, but I am "extending" it until Jan 20 after I get back from my trip, so I can get in all the later entries.

Midnight tonight will be the absolute deadline on my site to order anything, so I can get it all in the mail tomorrow. Any order coming in after that time will be delayed until January 20th.

Thanks Klx300r , and motrucker.

Remember the complete product listing is:

I think you should just exclude shipping to Italy. That's how the majority of ebay sellers work, even in Europe! Probably even in Italy too! You're not alone in having problems shipping to Italy...

Oh man, that's unfortunate!  Customer service when dealing with a-holes is really the hardest part of just about any job.

I've got a horror story to share with you.  20 years ago I was the manager of an auto parts store, and these guys came in an bought a starter from me.  No big deal, right?  So a few hours later they show back up with this starter in pieces.  For whatever reason, they'd completely disassembled their brand new starter.  They thought (or claimed they thought) they had to take it apart to install it.  So I put this thing all back together, bench test it right in front of them, showed them it works, and send them back on their way.  A couple hours later they show back up again, and demand a refund.  I say to them "You can't get a refund, you took the thing all apart and messed it up!"  Well they wouldn't leave my store, I had to call the police to get them out.

Next day they call in and the owner gives them a refund.  Because people have learned that sometimes when you're a big enough a*hole, you can get your way.  But that doesn't make you any less of an a*hole.

And this is why customer service sucks, sorry that that really doesn't relate to your situation at all, but good luck reopening your store!  :hammer:

Three points about the blog:  There is an a-hole born every minute, tons of non-North Americans on A-bay wouldn't ship a shoelace to here to save their life, and USD's rule, or at least seem preferred over the CDN's (probably an access issue).  Well, maybe they don't rule, but Republicans collect billions of them

I have been asked by a few on alternative payments on my site other than Paypal.
Paypal is the safest way (both you and I are protected). No Canadian Bank (without a lot of hassle) will cash a Personal Cheque drawn on a US bank account. So that leaves Cash (Not recommended) Mailed "Overnight" with a tracking number and signature required (for you to know I got it) or interact email money transfer (if available to you- within Canada it's very common)
Also, the fastest and best way to get a hold of me is through e-mail, as I don't sign in to here too often, so I may miss your PM's. glenvdb (at) hotmail goes right to my phone, amiga (at) amigalounge gets checked a few times a day.

What monitors were usually paired with A3000 and A4000?
Title: Re: stop by the Amiga lounge
Post by: Duce on July 14, 2015, 03:54:04 AM
When I got my A3000 new, the "bundled" (and I use the term loosely) or recommended monitor the local dealer had was the Commodore 1950.

Was a terrific monitor, and I believe I still likely have it stuffed on a shelf in my storage space.  I only quit using it when I got my A4000 and put an '060 and CV64 card in it and I picked up a 17" multiscan monitor at Costco for the ungodly sum of about $600.

Some people had issues with the one switch or one of the resistors in the 1950, but I myself never had a lick of problems with it.

I've got no doubts said 1950 monitor still works fine if I could only recall exactly where I put it, lol.  Said A3000 "bundle" also came with the C= A10 speakers, which were so terrible they sounded like a chunky, elderly man passing wind through a soup can.  Terrible things, those.

slow day on the website,But a busy day behind the scenes. Got a load of C64 stuff in. I admit, I know almost nothing on the 64 side. A good thing a local guy put an offer in right away for the whole lot- site unseen. I don't have to unpack everything and take photos, just load up the truck with boxes this week sometime when he gets here.

Lots of things happening this weekend at the lounge.
Many "Blow out" unadvertised specials that will change every day. Some items up to half price off (yea, just trying to make rent).
I am changing the front page for a bit, and getting rid of the Babe of the Day. I found it was just troll bait, so I will be posting magazine covers. All new stock is expected in by the end of August, Faster if I can pay for it faster, and remember, I do take deposits on "pre-orders"

The DLG manual have the actual pages, or just the binder and box the binder slides into?

DLG is now freeware on Aminet with a full HTML/AGuide manual, but I lost my printed DLG manual years ago and wouldn't mind another one.

Fun fact:  DLG and TelePro Technologies was based originally in Sask., then just down the road from you in my hometown of Red Deer, which wasn't exactly known as an Amiga hotbed, lol.  I visited their "office" (aka, a room in a basement) 20+ years ago here in RD.

It's the full deal, pages etc. I was disappointed when I could not find the disk(s) for it.

Wasn't Red Deer the home of the Lucas/Francis Board also?

I will be taking a small break from the Amiga Lounge for the next week or so due to I got a load of TRS 80 Color Computer stuff and I will be working on my other site the Coco Lounge http://thecocolounge.com.
the "new" inventory will appear under new listings on the Amiga lounge, as that feature and the full products page has been restored, so http://amigalounge/productlist.html is back up.
you just have to scroll down more!

i will still be doing the shipping of course for both sites, and answering emails

it's been a crazy week at the lounge. I lost power at the lounge, so for the next week at least, I
will be doing updates from my netbook and phone, but other than photos not being uploaded not much else has been effected.
shipping is still going out as usual. I am looking at fixing that right away. Also, my webmaster has been fooling
with the layout of the site, so if you come back in an hour, it may have changed
I will have a complete blog up soon, but my friend from down south, emailed me the following
photo, he was wondering if he should toss it or if it was worth something. I knew what it was
and almost wet myself! I tried to convince him to give it to me, but no, he will clean it up and put it on
ebay soon.
I am in negotiations for even more Amiga stock soon, I might have to take another overnight road trip, but this is for
a few machines.

A while back, I believe you told us, where do the pictures come from?

The "Babe" photos are from a google image search. 99.9% of the Amiga photos for the store and such are from my personal collection and the for the most part are the exact items for sale, either scanned or photographed.

Hey bud!  Just a quick note.  I saw your blog about "When is DDR-3 RAM not DDR-3 ram?" and I've had the same problem.  I buy sticks of ram for my office, dozens at a time.  For the past few years I'd buy G.Skill F3-10666CL7Q-16GBXH (http://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9b-20-231-442) to go in our Dell OptiPlex workstations.  One day a batch of it just wouldn't work.  No boot, no POST, just beeping.  Turns out after some back-and-forth with the manufacturer, they'd changed something in the "standard" and this "new DDR3" was no longer compatible with our "DDR3" motherboards.  :(

Looking at the date codes on the chips, I found that memory manufactured before 12/13 worked, memory manufactured after 1/14 did not.

*Insert a bunch of cursing from me here*

In any case, I'm confirming your issue.  Tested a variety of sticks from different manufacturers, Eventually found this Crucial ram (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036VO632) that does work with our systems.  Maybe it will work for yours?

Cheers!

More madness going up all day at the lounge and some purging.
The lounge is moving locations soon, so over the next few weeks, I will be purging a lot of items from the store, in order not to move them. These item will be based on webstats and the less people even looked at them, the more likely they will be purged from the store. It may be your last chance to get some obscure items.

it's Saturday and besides any weekend specials, it's triple entry day for the A1200 Giveaway. Yep, any Purchase, Donation, or Deposit over $10 will count towards 3 entries.

New stock is still expected to arrive tomorrow, and a new blog was posted. Still plenty of time to enter the "win an A1200" contest and plenty of deals in the store today.I also want to please remind all that when inquiring about stock and such, PLEASE email the lounge directly, it keeps everything organized and PM's here may not be answered as quickly as lounge email- the address is on the bottom of every page.

Looks like the org doesn't like my new ISP ( Telus) so I can't log on from home. Another reason why I keep asking you all to please use the email to the website instead of pm's here

I got some new stock in yesterday and a few new blogs have been posted.

I worked long into the night to test and photograph the fusion forty card and it seems to work great. I even dropped the price for a quick sale.

I still can't log on from home to the .org. I sent emails but it still seems my isp is forbidden to even look at Amiga.org. Meanwhile, I have new blogs and stock posted and more will be posted this coming week.
