Brilliant! But why did you keep those infernal ZIP sockets? ;)

Seriously, though, congrats on the accomplishment and thanks on behalf of the community.

As I told in the video.  I kept it to have a working baseline.  and there are people who want it due to the Static Column ZIPs..

Ah. I wasn’t able to watch with audio when I viewed it.

Forgive me, I can’t remember the technical benefit of static column. Is it a speed boost compared to FPM? And SIMMs don’t get that benefit either?

It is some faster, like a precursor to EDO Ram. (NO. EDO is NOT the same)

this was never implemented in simms, they got EDO later instead.

I think the SCRam lets you use BURST mode in 030 CPUs and higher...whereas FPM does not.  There is a section in the A3000 manual that describes why one is better than the other, I think.

For the reAmiga 3000 I think you should primarily focus on making it cheaper to manufacture (while retaining compatibility as much as possible).   Obviously if you can increase performance/stability while retaining compatibility with software and hardware cards then that would be bonus.   It might also be preferable to replace a couple of the vintage ECS chips for something more interesting ;)

For someone like me who can't solder for s*it and also doesn't want to spend hours searching for all of the vintage components it would be preferable to buy a complete working A3000 (inspired) modern reproduction motherboard.

You could ditch the on-board CPU and FASTRAM for a start to save costs...

:)

Nice work indeed.  It must have taken you a while to lay that PCB.

When considering future development, my opinion is that compatibility is important but given that this is a brand new PCB, which diverges from "original" anyway, I think the door is open for a lot of decent improvements and if I were you I would not be shy of implementing them.

Obviously each person will have their own ideas about which improvements they would like to see, and from that list only some of them will be feasible.  But this is a very nice project and I congratulate you on it!  I will pay attention to its continued development.

Out of interest, what PCB package are you on?
