What sort of gaming do you do?

Small independent-type games on PC, retro computer and console games, Nintendo DS. Don't have too much use for modern big-budget gaming (PC or console,) there's too much money involved for them to be allowed to risk it on making things interesting :/

And let's not forget Amiga gaming, funny enough, I "found" Pirates! just yesterday and now I'm hooked ...

After 15 years of Amiga gaming I was sorely missing driving games. That's 95% of my gaming nowadays on my laptop.

I prefer games that become toys after they're finished, whatever type that makes me.

wow, first time I ever got to tick all the poll results :)

Although a lot of my modern console time is spent on XBLA or indie games. Quite often a bit retro. They are just so much faster to play when your time is at a premium.

Friday night is games night for me, start off with RPG/boardgames, play a few retro games, then into the lounge to play Xbox360 on the big TV...well, once the missus goes to bed!

Any reason for the swearing in the poll? International audience and all that, or is this site Adults Only now?

Nowdays its the ps3, it is just great... playing games on pc i have given up on. you always need to upgrade it, i am tired of it..... amiga games and other retro games, been there done that for years and i feel i am pretty much finnished with that.  yup as for now its ps3 all the way, its where it all is happening in gaming now days and it is very interestng. the multiplayer games are booming and co-op online with friends its where it all happen :)

I love playing 'System Update' and 'Game Update' on my PS3. By the time these are done, there's no time for playing games. It used to be that you could grab ten minutes here and there with gaming...

It's also nice, because they upgrade their skills and engines, rather than saying 'update your PC'.

A nice knock on effect (for me,anyway): Now the PC is no longer calling the shots, PC games will run on the same spec as you had a few years ago, because consoles dictate the pace of change. This means i'm playing on my PC again for the first time in years.

with that comment your more gay than any gaymers :)

retro remixes i listen to in the early 2000, but always did go back to the originals and ended up deleting the retromixes becouse they was not worth my time. so newer bothered with retromixes again ever since.

as for demos every ps3 games kills everything ever made with the c64/amiga and pc. so why bother?... i dont anymore... demos is something of the past now days and pretty boring. in ps3 games i interact with all these great technical demo effects everyday. thats much more enjoyable :)

Well....if you have an interest in how far old hardware can be pushed, and technical skill, they are still cool. also if you want to watch rather than play.  But your right, every nextgen system provides interactive graphics of a higher level.

there will always be a few pc games that is calling the shot and force you to upgrade, games like crysis... anyway i have given up pc nowdays its only for websurfing, email etc... when you sit infront of the computer all day at work, i dont fancy spending time on it when i am home. its much more relaxing with the ps3 in the living room, watch some movies, have a video chat with a friend/send messages. then just put in that disc, the game startup with no hassle at all and joine a game with friends... its great :)

these old machines have been pushed to the max along time ago. there aint much to see anymore sadly, than just sit there and remember old times and a great time it was. but i am finished with that, been there done that you know... :)

yes every nextgen system provides interactive code, effect, graphics of a higher level and even some human input, where you can change the output.. the best part of it all is that you can now even share that interactive with someone online, it is exciting times we live in :)

Each to his own, but there's nothing stopping a person doing the same with a PC. I have a multimedia/gaming system attached to my tv in the lounge sitting under the tv, controlled by joypad and remote controls (and/or mouse/keyboard if I chose). It's a little more work to set up nicely, but it's also more flexible than a console.

That said though, I do really like my XB360, and like my ps2 as well (although it doesnt get used often). I have all the usual suspects in the way of emulators and whatnot setup on my media centre box as well. For my tastes nothing beats real hardware, but using a tv and joypads definately adds something to running games in emulators for my tastes.
I have a megadrive too that I use sometimes, but dont have a lot of games, so I probably fire up a megadrive emu more often than the megadrive.

All in all Id have to say I just like good games. Doesnt really bother me too much what format theyre on.

Interesting, thanks for posting that. But I see no 'wanker' category, so it must be disallowed ;)

So, social, casual, and MMO rely less on cutting edge hardware (in fact my Athlon 2000 with GF4 is from 8 years ago, and runs most of these fine).

Iv'e noticed the Mhz wars have moved onto phones though, which is a shame.

consoles is like apple computers, the hardware/aplication is tailor-made and it is plug and play with no hassle... to put it simple it just work and is great.

the hassle with a windows solution and third product/driver nightmare, forget it...

Vintage console games mainly, when I play that is. Systems listed in my sig. Mostly enjoy a quick few minutes of shoot 'em ups. Don't care much for modern gaming really at all. Around the time when CD or DVD based gaming became the standard, I lost interest.

To each his own, eh ?  If you are basing your opinion on downloading massive files you are missing the experience.  When Slayradio or Scenesat do live shows on irc, that's what it's all about.  The experience with others.  Unfortunately I do not live in Europe and cannot attend all the station gathering parties or a demoscene convention.

I'm guessing you are still a kid?  The whole ps3/pc/xbox/nintendo fanboy thing is redundant, they are just toys and the average time someone spends on a game (which many don't have replay value to them) is less than a week.

Pushing the limits of hardware is not what interests me, demos have songs I grew up with and have have heard changed with different composer's flavor added.  And it sure beats having winamp's standard visuals playing on another monitor while doing something else on the pc.  They are kind of like an old friend, that can keep you company.

If you say it's dead that's your ignorance.  You can get a taste of how big the scene still is by checking out some of the streaming media at
http://capped.tv/monthtop

I rarely play my mame machine and my xbox only ever gets used to stream tv shows.  If games is what you live & sleep you might as well be playing world of warcraft.

I play anything I like on any platform, except phones and tablets... except for Sudoku on my phone sometimes (simple, cheap pre-paid phone with one game) ;) Note: For retro games nostalgia isn't a factor (I'm not a nostalgic person), only whether or not I like the game.

As for consoles, I play mostly Vectrex, followed by my 3DO..
As for retro, it's been (recently) almost all Amiga, with some Vic-20...

As for PC, I've been toying with OnLive and played (badly) Unreal Tournament and Trine on it recently.
Last game I played through was Prey.
Before that, a lot of Neverwinter Nights.

For me it's definitely my ps3. But it's not perfect. It's a closed in system meaning you can't modify it in any way. Ever tried to put a file onto the HD of a ps3 from a pc memory stick? This means i have to use my laptop for things like watching movies, Skype, photos, etc.

I don't buy the idea of a solution for everything stuck inside my ps3 console. It's too closed in in to make it work like that i think

I think pcs are good in that you can mod out the games which you can't do on a ps3 or xbox. I would love to see a jailbroken ps3 so i can take control of my own hardware

I try to find time to play the bigger releases on pc (I invested quite some time to finish Fallout 3 for example) but more often Im playing some old stuff using WHDLoad or even better, emulated platforms like NES, SNES, MAME, NeoMAME etc. Only on my Amiga ofcourse, for some reason its not fun emulating stuff on pc, even though it does it a 100 times better and faster. Oh I also have a bunch of old consoles that I play around with, Ive just finished playing the last 'good' games for PS2 for example. Ofcourse I bought all of them.. ;)

I consider myself an all around kind of gamer... PC and console, new and retro, board games and pen-n-paper RPG's.  You name it, I probably play something of that style.  About the only kind of gaming I'm not really into is gambling style card games (poker, etc.)

As far as pc, retro and console are considered, I have the following to choose from:

1. PC for more modern stuff (most World of Warcraft and some indie games)
2. Old Dos/Win98se PC with Voodoo3 card in it for retro pc gaming
3. Amiga 1200 w/030 card in it
4. Nintendo Wii
5. Xbox (not the 360)
6. Dreamcast
7. Nintendo DS
8. Commodore 128
9. TI 99/4A

Played Shadowgrounds Survivor and Osmos on the PC (as well as a brief attempt at Nethack)
Hilt and Alien Breed 3D2 on the amiga
Face of Battle (ww2 tabletop miniatures game)
And a tabletop RPG session of Rolemaster 2nd edition :)

Good times.

Really?  I find it totally the opposite.  Obviously I have played later graphics based games, and some I really love....but I find that eventually those become boring and repetitive white the text adventures are some of the most mentally stimulating and memorable games I've ever tried (like the Infocom games).
