Long time Amiga fan Dick van Dyke saved from flaming Jaguar

Dick van Dyke's Jaguar up in Flames on LA Freeway

A passing motorist has captured footage of Dick van Dyke slumped over the wheel of his Jaguar, moments before he was pulled to safety by other motorists as his Jaguar went up in flames on an LA freeway.

Second video shows a quick shot of the vehicle, and Dick seems OK.

The 87-year-old said his Jaguar started to make strange noises while he was driving in Los Angeles today."I thought it had a flat at first and then it started smoking and then it burnt to a crisp," he said.

"(Now) I have a nice used car for sale."

Van Dyke said a passing stranger named Jason Pennington saw him hunched at the wheel of the car and sprung into action.

"They thought I had passed out so they yanked me out of the car," he said.

"I was just trying to call the [California Department of Motor Vehicles]."

The actor's wife, Arlene Van Dyke, posted a photo of the burned-out car on Twitter.

"He's fine thank God!" she tweeted.

A California Highway Patrol incident log said a driver was found inside a burning car, possibly unaware the vehicle was on fire, about 2pm local time, the LA Times reported.

I hope he didn't have any Amiga hardware in the boot of his car! ;)

I have an A1200 box from one of his studios. :)

He was transporting the prototype for the brand new Amiga Computer. Because no one would ever suspect Dick Van Dyke's participation in such a cloak-and-dagger effort to evade the ever-present rival spies. But the secret plot was foiled, as the spies turned into saboteurs. Fortunately Dick Van Dyke* was unharmed in the car bombing. And now Amiga will have to start from scratch again. Drat!

*glad he wasn't hurt.

As an Amiga fan, I would have thought Dick van Dyke wouldn't be caught dead with a (Atari) Jaguar.

When I first read the headline "Dick Van Dyke saved from flaming Jaguar" I had something entirely different in mind.

Glad he's ok though.

Why do these things keep happening to Dick? Last time it was being rescued from drowning by Porpoises (I kid you not).

I bid on his A4000 tower on Ebay a few years ago, but the bidding went crazy.

Didn't the same fate befall Dick's other car - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - at the beginning of the movie?  I'll bet he'll have that Jaguar flying in no time.  Just needs the manifold from the cottage hearth and some buffing.

No worries, no Amiga in the trunk. He sold his Amiga 4000T a few years back and autographed it for the auction buyer. His friend who was helping him sell it was nice enough to get an autographed photo of him for me and send me photos of him signing the Amiga. Unfortunately, I lost the auction.

I am so happy he is safe. From my dealings with his friend and him indirectly, through the sale, he seems like a truly nice Gentleman.

Thank you for passing on the news. .

I'm glad he's OK!  Hope he kept one of his Amigas to keep his hand in the game.

Yeah glad he escaped unscathed.  There don't seem to be many real gentlemen like him left in the acting business these days.
