Monster new Dell Tower! Core 2 Duo @2.4gHz
« on: September 05, 2006, 05:24:49 AM »
Pictures don't always convey an accurate impression, until you see something sitting in front of you in your living room.

My new Dell XPS 700 tower arrived and it is the biggest tower I have ever seen.  It is great looking and loaded too.  Here are the specs (if I remember all of them from the order).

Intel Core 2 Duo @2.4gHz
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 667mHz
Dual 256mb nVidia GeForce 7900GS video cards tied together
250gb SATA 7200rpm HD
20" widescreen flat panel display
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
100 watt 5.1 surround sound speakers
Dual TV Tuner + Remote
13 in One Media Card Reader w/Floppy drive

The most important software AmigaForever 2005 (not from Dell)

I am watching TV and typing this at the same time.  This is great.  The only reason I bought it was because I had a limited time 15% off discount coupon from my last employer, and I got a great deal.  I priced the new PowerMac towers and for a similar system, the Dell was at least $1,000 to $1,500 cheaper.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I think that in a PC word those Geforce-cards are ready to be changed much before than HDCP is required. As local computer magazine just wrote about those few HDCP-compliant display adapters: "there is no reason to panic with upgrading. Even movie studios have understood, that there is no point to create situation where users with computers and/or with non-hdcp televisions are capable of watching only pirated versions of high-definition movies. HDCP-protected movies are still few years ahead."

Even though they might be little optimistic, there is some truth in what they wrote.

Hey, I was just wondering, what does a 'dual' tv tuner do for you?  Do you watch two channels at once (while writing in A.org forums, of course)?
Good good study, day day up!

I really hope for your case that Dell have now dropped Maxtors in favor of some other HD brand. If not, then you will have a big chance of losing all your data in less than a year. It sounds like a nice box for a pc though.. But i still would personally rather build my own or have a store assemble it for me as it gets both cheaper and you get to choose your own components.

I'll have to open it up to check the HD brand.  Yes, dual tuner card is for watching one channel while I can record a different program to watch at another time.

No AROS yet.  I just have not gotten interested in the AROS movement so far.  What software programs are available to run on AROS?  It doesn't run OS3.1 compatible Amiga programs, does it?

I would like to see an A1200 running a couple of apps and displaying live TV in a window, you are a better Amigan than I to figure that one out and buy the right hardware.

Like my sig says, too many Amigas and never enough time to tweak them all.

My door is always open to fellow Amiga users and specially those who enjoy helping other Amiga users (like me) tweak their machines.  Living in a mountain resort town will hopefully entice some to visit one day.

Not bad setup at all.

Got my brother a compy together, and the raid 320gb sata 16mb cache drives go well. ;)

On the other hand, I have a dual 450mhz P3 slot 1 computer which runs great for what I do. This 2800+ I have for myself just serves to do some schoolwork and bust out a few old games.

Either way, I like my computer to be a slave and make it work. :)

Nope.  The single E6600 is faster...
