True.  Last time I had "spare" money I blew a small fortune in a bike shop.  I'm currently trying to convince myself that I really don't need some cool looking, machined aluminium hubs / skewers / fittings etc in anodised blue!

The second biggest money pit has to be cars, what with fuel, road tax, servicing etc.  I try and bike to work twice a week to cut costs here.

Otherwise it's beer...  Saturday night I was out on the town with a friend for "a few quiet drinks".  I woke up on Sunday morning with a sore head, and a two hour blank in my memory and £55 gone from my wallet.  Oops.

 Hum,
I've always found hubs to be overrated..., Buy a nice titanium skewer instead and service the ones you've got every 6 months, invest that money you would have spent on a nice set of rims instead...Mavic do a good range ( 1" double eyeletted etc)..you'll feel more of a difference...

Er, or not...

Well, they sure look pretty.  Same with the skewers, they are available with titanium rods and anodised ally quick releases.

I've got Mavic 117 rims, which seem more than strong enough for the likes of me, but it's a possible future upgrade as they get lighter and stronger the higher up the range you go. I'm a relative newbie when it comes to biking ("all the gear and no idea") though but I'm learning...

What do you ride BTW?

Hum,
for the town I've a full suspension mild steel cheepo MTB,
But for off-road I've a souped-up  carrera doublebutted `cromo` rigid frame with 2.2" `specialised` tyres and 52/42/38 teeth & 12/38 rear gearing. But it’s a bit old nowadays, and a bit heavy compared with todays light frames...

Hum, time to start a new `MTB` Thread?

Yep, but I haven't ridden in a while. I'm on a (prehistoric) 1993 Marin Bear Valley frame that needs a new rear derailleur (sp?). I have lost touch with the MTB world to be honest. I was into it back in early 90s when I was a teenager. [That bike cost me a pretty penny back then!] I was gonna start going to competitions, but it was around then when I discovered the pub.

But its all come on loads since then. I mean, I see EVERYONE riding full sus bikes.
Back when I rode, you were lucky to be able to afford some Rock Shox for the front. I had a couple of friends who had those Girvin Flexstem thingies.

[I don't understand why people ride full sus around town...surely X% of the energy is wasted?]
I like Amigas
