Title: Missing icons
Post by: Brunty on February 26, 2020, 08:50:26 PM
Hi peeps, I'm having an odd issue with missing icons. OS 3.9 with the boing bags, PeterK icon library etc.
The weird thing is that when I open a drawer I intermittently don't get all the icons displayed, but the text will appear. If I click where the icon should be, it'll appear in it's clicked form, click elsewhere and it stays as it should.
Any ideas? Oh, also suffering really bad stability problems, freezing mostly, and seems worst when the icons don't appear as they should!

Sounds like an Fblit config issue, but you might not even be using FBlit. I'm not a 3.9 user so someone else can perhaps help here.

The original icons from WB 3.9 or something else, maybe Newicons oder new PNG icons? Is the icon.library from Peterk well installed and the recommended version for your system?
Are you running RTG or AGA/ECS for graphics?

I thought this last night after posting. I'm using a mediator with voodoo and Picasso 96. I will check if it happens with aga too

Do the do that on RTG or on AGA display only?
This sounds like fblit as the friend said and also when you move graphics to fast ram.

Make also a Virus Z scan.

Ok, so I only seem to have this problem on rtg, aga is fine (but slow!)
I'm not using Fblit though. Unfortunately, the system wasn't stable enough for me to investigate much in the time I had available over the weekend. I shall try and figure more out over the coming evenings.

Scan the disk from another Amiga or emulator with Virus Z for the stability issue.

Check the heat of your Voodoo card, they get mighty hot, and I've seen something similar with my Radeon before I pulled it out and got a Voodoo 3, but it seemed to get even hotter (to the point there is now a brown spot on the green PCB!)  I ended up putting a fan under it in the slot next to it.

I believe the Voodoo to be fine as it got a good test in my MorphOS machine.

Something is odd though, and from the posts above it does seem to be something like memory. It works really well as long as I stick to non-Voodoo screen modes.
