Deluxe Paint, or Brilliance? which is better?
« on: July 19, 2004, 03:45:11 PM »

Ok, I am kind of tired of hearing people rambling about that past of How Deluxe Paint was great, and maybe so, but some Amigans must have left the scene having that memory in mind and not realizing that Deluxe Paint was Dethroned a long time ago by Brilliance.
Brilliance has most of the features of Deluxe Paint and works  in a similar way, is much more professional and has much more professional results. And best of all the interface is the Best Interface I have ever come across on any Paint program. Deluxe paint's was bad, especially when you changed the resolution, the tool bar got sqwooshed. Personal Paint managed to get the toolbar right, even when you change resolution.

Brilliance is king.............anyone disagree? well get Brilliance and read the manual and use it. You will wonder how you ever stuck with Deluxe Paint. :-)

I would like to hear your opinions :-)

Hum,
I  found  that dpaint was the easiest to use, though brilliance had a lot more features...
i have both on my system, but i prefer to use PPaint, which just blows them both away...

er, used in conjunction with imageFX, XI-paint  image- engineer, and a few other...

I have all 3 on my HD as well, and I use certain ones for certain tasks, but its funny because I find Deluxe paint the hardest to use and the most awkward.

i vote for brilliance! i think the interface is much nicer, only bad thing is that it doesn't work with RTG (I think DPaint 5 does, but not very good?)
Slightly bored and severly confused..

Depends on what I want to do.

If it's pixel art, I go for:
1) Brilliance/True Brilliance
2) DPaint
3) PPaint

If it's scanned/photo art:
1) Photogenics
2) PPaint
3) ImageFX (This is actually a very good package, it is just that I'm more familiar with others, so I reach for them first...  If I had more experience with IFX, it would probably be my first choice for this.)

And, of course, if it needs to be scaled, changed format, whatever:
1) AD Pro  :-)

TV Paint has excelent quality results, But I would not put TV paint in this category because it need a gfx card.

These are 2D paint programs we are comparing such as:

PersonalPaint
Deluxe Paint
Graphics Workshop
Brilliance
Photon Paint
and other i cant think of at the moment

@gav

Try TV Paint and Perfect Paint (not Personal Paint) although you can get Personal Paint as well, which I believe 6.4 is free

TrueBrilliance2!!!
It has the best image quality I've ever seen on any native Amiga chipset program.
I've never seen a program eliminating HAM8 fringing effects like Brilliance2. I think it uses the Copper in conjunction with HAM8 so the result is better than just HAM8, you won't distinguish it from a true 24bit picture. Infact most likely, most of the pixels are in true color for most pictures.

DPaint, I kinda got using it for some stuff but it doesn't support 24bit images. Same for PPaint despite the fact that it can use Gfx cards.

@Jose

Yes, actually when I refer to Brilliance, I am refering to specifically Brilliance 2.0 version, and that includes True Brilliance as well. And I agree with you on the HAM8 fringing thing, it makes you think your not working with HAM.

I can only agree. When it comes to AGA, Brilliance rocks. What it does to HAM8 is incredible IMHO. It's the best program to use with HAM8.

It's *very* usable even today.
