BlizKick Updated Following OS3.9 BB#2's Release
« on: March 22, 2002, 05:07:26 PM »
Harry Sintonen, creator of BlizKick, released a small update, v1.24rc2.

Below is from the readme:

"*NEW* in V1.24rc2:

- Updated romupdatesplit to handle OS 3.9 BoingBag2. It kind of worked before too, but named some modules unknown."

BTW, this is also a full sourcecode release, in case anyone's interested in learning how things tick.

The idea behind the recent update was to make it compatible with the various modules contained in the BB2. It does this. However, the replacement exec.library is loaded resident but never used (ie. a version exec.library will return V40 or whatever you have). I wonder when this will be fixed - a new module maybe?

Another thing is it's compatibility with exec44. Okay, the new exec replaces it and we shouldn't use it, but what happens to all the faster routines it also offered?

Blizkick is indeed great. I don't think I could run my Amiga in less than one reboot without it :-)

I believe exec45 is also the work of Harry and, as such, is more optimized than his previous 'unofficial' exec44.

Oh, btw, the latest release of BlizKick is rc3.

Sorry folks, thought I'd included the URL before. Thankfully, Kaminari posted it. :)

And it's true, v1.24rc3's out now. Took most of the day helping Piru betatest and discussing various system quirks...but it appears to be working now.

O.K.  I'm getting error return code 10 from trying
to run BlizKick 1.24rc3 from my startup-sequence.  Here is the
line that it is running:

SYS:ETC/BlizKick KICKFILE="DEVS:A4000_3.1_ROM" EXTRESBUF=80000 MODULE FastFileSystem FileSystem.resource scsi.device SpeedyIDE ram-handler console.device QUIET

That is the correct name for the kickfile and it does exist.  I have split
up the "AmigaOS ROM Update" file with the "romupdatesplit" program like the
docs say.

If I run BlizKick without the QUIET option, it says "object is not of required type"
and "Couldn't plant module 'SpeedyIDE'!"  Taking that out seems to make it work, but I would
like to use the SpeedyIDE option.  It also produces the error on my A1200.
