Artica Semi PowerPC SOC: Hoax, Scam, Joke or Real?
« on: April 04, 2005, 04:45:14 PM »
http://www.articasemi.com/page1.html

Hi
I read this produt from April edition of a local Apple user magazine.
Artica Semi had announced their new dual PowerPC SOC.

However:
1. This company mention Apple, Macintosh etc.
Do they have permission from Apple Inc?
Do they steal the design from Apple Inc?

2. This company is 3 years old, but never release any product.
Is this product just a vaporware / scam / hoax / joke?

3. If this SOC real, will the product contains various bugs?
Is it possible to use this product on future AmigaOne or Pegasos?

4. Is this just an April fools joke?

Thank you.

At the moment it seems like it's not much more than a suggestion to Apple.

Huh? I'm sure nobody is planning to include bugs in anything. Or were you wondering if bugs are a prerequisite for something to qualify as an "AmigaOne"? :)

If the product at some time would become something more than a feature list on a website, then yes, it seems like it is indeed meant to be a system controller / northbridge for PPC systems.
If Eyetech, who owns the "AmigaOne" trademark, would decide to resell such hardware using that label, then yes, that hardware would be an "AmigaOne". If Genesi would make hardware with this chip and market it as a "Pegasos", then yes, you've got a Pegasos with this chip.

Odd questions.

Your post or the SoC? :)
The website and that diagram has been around since before April.

Their address is incorrect.
When I contacted the number,  there is no Artica or McMillian.
Perhaps they had moved to another place.

This web site has been around for longer than April 1st. I emailed them a while ago asking more about their stuff but never got a reply from them.

I receive e-mail from Mr Garry McMillian that he no longer works for Artica Semiconductor. Perhaps this company is already closed, because he is the main person who promote this SOC and register the domain.
