Uncommon keymaps - A1000 and A600
« on: July 17, 2020, 07:51:42 PM »
The 2.05 Extras disk includes the keymaps usa0 and usa3, which correspond to the American A1000 and A600 keyboards, respectively. usa0 can also be found in 2.04, but I don't think usa3 is on any other disk. I don't know what these offer over the regular American keymap, but perhaps this info is useful to someone.

I've never found a usa1 keymap file--I assume this is the default American keymap and is part of the ROM.

I'm pretty sure usa1 is the default, yes.

USA0 is missing the A2000/A500 additions from the numpad, it was the original ROM keymap up to V34. USA1 was provided on disk with 1.2 and 1.3.

USA1 later moved to ROM and USA0 was moved to disk.

Oh, of course. Good info. I never had an A1000 and only just now checked a picture to see its numeric pad has fewer keys. That also explains the comment on the SetMap line of the 1.3 startup-sequence about activating ()*/. Learn something new every day here :)

I'd guess that usa3 omits the numeric pad altogether... but I don't understand the point of reflecting that in the software keymap when the physical keys simply don't exist on the A600. Maybe that's why they stopped shipping it with the OS?

Ah, there it is on the Workbench disk. I couldn't find it because I was looking on the Extras disk where all the other international keymaps are stored.

I see that usa0 is also on the Extras 1.3 disk. I wonder why they shipped a disk version if it was still in ROM?
