Two clocks possible in A1200?
« on: August 19, 2022, 10:20:35 PM »
The battery on my Blizzard 1230 mk4 is failing, it doesn't keep time for more than a couple of days if I don't power up (given I bought it in 1996 that's still impressive). It works, but has the wrong time by hours or days, depending on how long it's off for. I know I can replace the battery but that would require desoldering the old one and I'm nervous about this.

Another option would be to add a second clock like the clockport clock from Amigakit, but would the Amiga be able to cope with two, potentially conflicting, time sources?
Thanks in advance.

It seems totally incredible to me now that back before I had my first expansion board I was indifferent to the date and time being wrong on my machine.

If you are going to fit the one from Amigakit, I have one in my A1200, I would say it would be best practice to remove the one on the Blizzard.

Clint, thanks for the links.

I'm nervous about soldering the board and causing damage, so if I make the swap I might get a professional to do it. I'm still wondering if a no solder alternative of adding a second clock is possible.

Overall the lack of accuracy isn't an issue as it auto-corrects when I go online, but it's just one of those things that isn't quite right.
