A2630 - Need help testing
« on: November 16, 2015, 02:51:01 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I just picked up an A2500 yesterday and brought it home.  Hadn't been powered up in 10 years I was told.  I expected battery leakage - and there was.  Removed that, and cleaned up the crud - about to install a CR2032 and diode.

Anyway, the machine works fine without the A2630 in place.  It had been overclocked to ~28MHz with an oscillator change.  I changed the oscillator back to 25MHz and still nothing.  The '030 does not get warm at all.  Front LED changes from darker to lighter as if it has made it at least part way through the startup.  All other cards have been removed for testing.

I checked the traces around the battery, CPU slot, and CPU socket and all appears good.  This is the only A2000 I have and the only accelerator, so at this point I can't tell if it's the CPU slot or the A2630.

So, simple question:  Is there someone out there that would be willing to pop this A2630 into their machine to see whether it is functional?  Would prefer to send it to someone in Canada, and I would be paying shipping either way.a

Thanks for any help you may be willing to offer.

I presume this won't be the problem as they came together, but if you're trying to boot into OS 2.04 or higher it needs V6.6 ROMS or above. I had an A2620 once that would do exactly as you described until I updated the ROMS.

Thank you for that.  I have tried to boot it with KS 1.3 and 2.04.  I am going to eventually pick up a new set of 7.0 ROMs for the A2091 though.

Try re-seating the card a few times, when I pulled my A2000 out of the basement after a few years, I had to re-seat the cards half a dozen times before they would work.

Where in Canada are you?

I know you said you checked, but I'd recheck around the 68000 again.  I've seen some cases where battery crud has leaked underneath the socket, and the entire socket needed to be replaced to get at it all.

+1 to  clean & reseat the board a few times.

Also I'd be willing to test the card for you in one of my 2000's if you wanted to send it down, but as I'm in the US you'd probably be better served to find someone in Canada, instead.  What with shipping and all that.  ;)  Good luck!

Thanks for the offers guys.  Yeah, the on-board CPU works - boots every time.   Frustrating...  I've sent you a PM DWV.
