sigh! (slide no. two)

* sniff * I love computers! I love them! I love computers, consoles, portable consoles, they are toys to me :'( they are all my favorite toys ever!! I love them!! I prefer them over cars...I would rather take public transportation than not own these toys.
To me computers are like cars to most men.

Heh, I've been urbexing for years and never discovered any such stack of computers. Old medical records, on the other hand, I've found plenty of those! :-/
-
There has to be a troll in every thread and unusually for me .... it's me, this time.
Apple tat... meh ..... best place for it.

I'd love to do this full time, a lot like auction hunters/toy hunter. Go around finding old electronics.
But one has to pay the bills :-(
If I ever won the lotto (lottery) I'll be doing this full time, would love to have a second hand computer store :-)

Many years ago, my local school district sold off all it's apples at auction. It was in an old metal pole building used by the maintenance department. Not as bad as shot 2, but i wonder what happened to the unsold ones... They had them in "stacks" of a monitor, drives and computer. The winning bidder got his pick of as many stacks as he wanted... then the rest of the bidders got their pick at that price... Most were IIGS machines... but one had an appple II with a useless (to it) VGA monitor. I bought that one for $7 just to get the monitor. I sold the Apple a couple days later for about the same...

@JimS - You often wonder about stuff like that, not classic related but my borther in law works at the local college and there is a lot of PC gear being thrown out. Most of it only 5 years old. Still good enough for internet and possibly some low end gaming.
Where I work for the Navy they're throwing out servers that are only about 5 years old too, many have a lot of life left in them. Most of the stuff I can't get my hands on though, I just think what a waste.
There's always that thought in the back of my mind that someone somewhere is throwing out Amiga gear, and me thinking how can I find out where it's happening :-/

Yeah, I see one of the local universities periodically advertising their surplus pc gear on Craigslist. I guess they have one of those same pole buildings on the fringe of the campus for the salvage yard. My old alma mater, Michigan State, has an entire building dedicated to recycling stuff. They were ahead of the curve, since they've been doing it since I was a student back in the 70s.
I can see the military being a bit paranoid... Back when I was a field engineer for Burroughs one of the software guys told me of his time servicing a military mainframe installation. He said they'd bring him core dumps to read with big holes cut into them. They'd also buy and destroy a defective core stack (actual cores!) rather than send it back for repair.
I haven't found the Amiga Graveyard either... even the local craigslist seems to have dried up lately.

Nevertheless, I mean, Apple II's, and classic Macs, after all these years... be merciful!

Very sad to see all those iMac computers trashed, while seemingly useless they could
have been used for something. Creative art project or use the cases to make a fish
tank or aquarium, something..
Some how I doubt that any Commodore or Amiga has ever met the same demise in
such quantity at the same time.. There is just too much love for the machines, lol.
I personally can not throw away or trash anything Commodore/Amiga related even
if it is broken :-)..

Just purchased a Parallel port based floppy emulator for my A2000.
I know what you mean.
But then, who is making new hardware for old Apples?
Now Amiga...
-
Yes lucky they were macs and not amigas...
I see no use for old macs other than morphos. If it can't run morphos its trash...
:)

When a company I worked for got liquidated they threw some Macs in the skip. I did the only decent thing. I asked the boss if I could take them home.
He said yes and I sold them to a Mac fanboy. They all went to one guy too. I sold one Powermac on ebay and when he came around to pick it up I showed him the rest and offered him a bargain bundle price for the lot. He couldn't resist.
So there I am helping him load them into the car and his girlfriend is sitting in the passenger seat. I'll never forget the look of "I'm going to kill you when we get home" on her face.
LMAO, anyone here know how he felt? I bet a few of you do. ;)

Did you ever hear from him again?;)
My partner have been asking me why I buy these 'useless, old computers'. Useless? It's Amiga! Some of my stuff requires a bit of a refurbishing (A1000 with a keyboard that has a dozen non working keys, A500 which generates Gurus out of the blue) so I guess that's why she is confused:D
-
Did you ever hear from him again?;)
No but he left me positive feedback on ebay. In all honesty he got a bargain deal. I spent the cash on Amiga stuff at the time too. I've sold that stuff since but hey ho, all I need is an A1200 and a CD32 and I'm happy.

Hey! A sane Amiga user.
They DO exist.
:roflmao:

Actually, my wife says she's happy that I collect old computers.
According to her, it's better than me being a hunter and bringing home a deer for her to gut!
-
In that case, you should bring home some completely dead amigas and make her gut them for parts..
:)
