Indivision AGA MK2 screen mode problem
« on: August 30, 2012, 02:18:56 AM »
Hi,

I recently upgraded my A1200 with an internal Indivision AGA MK2 flickerfixer from Individual Computers.

Installation went easy and without any problems and the Amiga still powers up fine and boots. However, while the flickerfixer outputs a signal, the signal itself is actually so weird that neither my HDTV (through VGA) nor my DVI monitor could display them.

The HDTV complains about the signal being out of range while the DVI monitor (Eizo 15 inch) displays a heavily distorted picture: the Workbench screen looks like it's been tilted in 3D projection, very weird.

The instructions of the flickerfixer state that the timings are not yet perfect for all displays and things are expected to improve with future firmware updates. However, up to now, there are no real updates available.

Any suggestions on how to fix the timings?

99% of the problems reported here about the AGA MK2 are due to faulty user installations, usually the board hasn't been seated properly and has to be pushed down with considerable force.

It actually works fine when I connect the Amiga to my Eizo display using the VGA signal (using a DVI-VGA-DVI adapter as the display has only one DVI-I input).

The HDTV seems to be very nitpicky about the timings. It didn't work with an old Sun Ultra 1 as well.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Adrian

Using VGA and you will have issues due to different pixelclocks and you will get vertical lines. I Use DVI and since it's digital no sampling required and no vertical lines :)

DVI doesn't work for me at the moment, that is what I said in my original post. Using DVI on the Eizo display gives me a heavily distorted image.

I've got two MK2's in both my A4000 Amy's, but I use USA spec Westinghouse 1080X1920 monitors; the 32 inch one is a HDTV with VGA & HDMI input, and the 42 inch is just a monitor sans TV (VGA, HDMI, 2 DVI, and composite).  Both work very well with the Indivision MK2's with some minor vertical banding seen when no video output is displayed.

Well, did you the Amiga up using DVI or VGA? I've got only issues over DVI and this case is already mentioned in the installation manual of the flickerfixer and should be fixed with future firmware updates.

VGA works fine for me as well. Just my Sharp HDTV doesn't seem to like the signal but it also just displays "out-of-sync" when I connect my old Sun workstation.

Yes I know, but getting a second hand DVI monitor might be worth it to get rid of vertical lines until the new firmware/ConfigTool comes for the Indy. (depends on how much they annoy you ofc)

Yes, I might take the Amiga to my work place, we've got dozens of DVI monitors sitting around. There's certainly one that works.

So I would try the Amiga on another DVI monitor to be a bit more sure thats it's an issue with that monitor and DVI, ive tried mine on 7 monitors and all worked (varied results and a lot of black borders on some but worked).

Well, no. It's not an issue with the monitor as the manual explicitly states. Jens said he knows the DVI output doesn't work with all monitors yet and he will be fixing the issue in the future.

I suppose that some monitors have just a higher tolerance for improper signals.
