Atheros 54Mbps wireless driver for OS4
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:27:32 AM »
A driver for Atheros AR5000-series 54Mbps 802.11g wireless PCI cards has been released for AmigaOS 4. It supports WPA/WPA2 encryption (as well as WEP), and is available for free on Aminet. PCI-Express cards may also work but are untested.

Versions of the driver are already distributed with AROS and MorphOS, but it is unlikely to become available for AmigaOS 3 because of DMA requirements.

Nice, thanks!

On a related note, here's a list of Atheros chipset wireless cards. These are described as AR500x-series cards rather than straight-up AR5000. Will these work, or does it have to be a plain AR5000 card?

Yes, in general those cards should work, but see the guide in the archive for specifics.

I guess the number of possible users would be pretty low, but... Wouldn't it work on classics with g-rex?

I can't even get the non-DMA Prism-II cards to work with the G-Rex.

I just bought a DWL-G520 for the princely sum of 99p (+ £1.99 postage) on eBay.
I can try it in my 4000 if you like...?
(Edit: I have a Prometheus though so not sure how much that'd help...)

Thanks, but I don't think the Prometheus will do DMA properly until the vapourware DMA hardware upgrade/reflash emerges. Like the G-Rex, I couldn't even get the PIO-only Prism-II cards to work properly in my Prometheus.

Maybe atheros5000.device would work under OS4 with a Mediator however (that has native OS4 drivers, doesn't it?).
