Win2k Virtual Device Drivers
« on: March 22, 2003, 09:53:59 PM »
This isn't urgent, it's just really annoying.  I occasionally get this error:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers.  VDD.  Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid.  Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I can either close or ignore this.  If I ignore everything usually works ok.

When I looked in the registry there is one entry in the VirtualDeviceDrivers bit:

Name: (Default)
Type: REG_SZ
Data:

I am assuming that there should be an entry in the Data bit.  Does anyone know what should be there?

If you need more info, just ask.

Cheers guys :-D

We've never had Norton on this machine, so it's not that.  If I delete the key will that stop the error coming up?

@T_Bone

Cheers for the pic and links.

I didn't have the VDD entry in the registry at all, so I had to try and create it.

I had problems creating it until I was using regedit instead of regedt32 :-P  What is the point in having regedit if you can't do much with it.  Mind you, it is Windows after all :-P

Anyway, got the VDD entry in there now and so far it seems to be working - mind you, it's only been there for 20 mins, and 5 mins of that was because I had to hit reset after it crashed and let it do the scandisk - but that was my fault, not connected to the regedit thing - I only remember that PCs can't multi-task AFTER it crashes. :-P

@seer

Cheers for the post of instructions, I read them on the other sites last night but couldn't be bothered to fix it then.  When I came on just now I just used your post instead of looking at the links again.  Cheers.

@jeffmix

Nothing is strange for Windows when I'm using it :-P
