@Crom00

Erm, not sure why you are taking a dig at the minimig. It's hardware design is open source, so you could build your own at component cost if you wanted to.

Finally a real piece of 'Amiga' hardware which might, finally, interest me.  Who would have beleived it, after all these years.

:lol:

Looking at your sig, I can see you are a PPC aficionado at least.

As an aside, note that progress is being made with the Radeon HD drivers for 4.x: http://hdrlab.org.nz/radeonhd-development-log/

Which is just as well. If this new hardware sports PCI Express 16x slots, it would be nice to have something to stick in one that's supported :)

Can see how that can be considered a dig at MM.

Hey, you were the one that put MiniMig in the "top dollar for dated technology ... Amiga fanboy folly" camp, not me. I just pointed out that Minimig is, actually, as close to free as it gets.

Anyway, as a cautionary note, let's not "over" speculate what this hardware is or it will inevitably end in disappointment when your SMP dual Cell CPU based box with integrated FPGA-based AAA chipset support fails to arrive.

So far, I see a supposedly PPC motherboard with PCI Express, Legacy PCI, USB, Ethernet and SATA. All of which is good to have. Anything else at this stage is a bonus.

Anybody got any objection to my moving the 'X' posts to the other thread? This one was supposed to be about timberwolf :)

How about some Zorro 3 breakout board for all those old bits of hardware lying around? Not remotely likely, of course, it would seem a bit pointless when most of the cards you could get are readily replaced with the onboard hardware or cheap PCI boards.

It seems 2010 will be an exciting year. Now if only MorphOS could be ported to the A-EON (I know it's early to go on about it already now! :-))

Now, what to put in the Xorro slot?

Steady on now, we don't even know exactly what this board is yet. Anyway, 2010 seems equally exciting for MorphOS anyway, judging by the progress they are making with the PPC Mac platform.

Although it would indeed be nice to have a newish system that does both (granted Pegasos-II does already, but I imagine it has the same problem as the A1 as far as finding suitable expansion boards goes).

I've just moved 60-odd posts from the Timberwolf thread here. As well as running concurrently with this thread, some of them were posted earlier than the post that opened this thread so don't be alarmed if a few seem to be a bit "out of place".

@Zac67

Indeed, "AmigaOne Power X"

They really plug that X, don't they :-)

Why not? It's one of the coolest letters in the alphabet :lol:

Karlos wants the thread to grow as long as over at aw.net ;-)

No objections btw.

OS4 on A-eon with Timberwolf... I'm excited :-P

:lol: That's not likely, I guess, but it's fair to say it has stimulated the forum a bit :)

Actually I hate X. I also hate Q. They do not represent any speech sounds in English which cannot more accurately be represented with other letters.

Pah, you'll be spelling colour without the 'u' next... Also, I think the above statement is incorrect. For instance, 'Q' cannot be more accurately represented as 'kw' since by definition it is one letter assigned to specifically represent that sound rather than using two other letters to do so. Maybe your objection should be that they may be represented using compounds of other letters and are therefore redundant :)

Not forgetting that Q requires an obligitory U.

Not always. Look at transliterations of Arabic place names and you'll see what I mean.

We digress yet again lol :)

Meh. We're still sort of on topic, in a very loose not-actually-on-topic-at-all sort of way...

But 'kw' is two speech sounds, in just the same way that 'st' is two speech sounds and 'str' is three speech sounds. If we're going to allow multiple phonemes to collapse into single graphemes, why not create a letter for every cluster which exists in the English language?

That's be logical and not quirky and therefore not befitting of our great nation of eccentrics.
