Title: Amiga and Flat-Panel (LCD) Monitors
Post by: on April 07, 2003, 02:09:07 PM
Has anyone tried using a Flat-Panel (LCD) Monitor on an Amiga without Graphics Card, using a ScanDoubler/FlickerFixer (reffered as SD/FF from now on)?
As I know, LCD Monitors have very limited resolutions (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768), and though a SD/FF combo can give the Sync output needed by the LCD, i don`t know if it`ll work with the resolutions provided by AGA (640x512, and so on).
I`m asking this, cause i have an LCD monitor, and a A1200/030, but with no fancy graphic-cards or other addons, and i`m wondering if I can just purchase a SD/FF, plug it on my miggy, and see my fav os on the flat panel...

Try dropping Eyetech an e-mail. They should know and will also be able to sell you the SD/FF if it does work.

They don't have limited resolutions, i have an iiyama 19" monitor it can go from 320x240 upto 1280x1024

I tried with an A4000 and an internal scandoubler plugged into the video slot.  Didn't work well at all.  I mean, I got a picture, but it was all squashed up into the top 50% of the screen and no amount of tweaking the monitor controls would fix it.  That was PAL 640x256.  Same happened with 640x512 interlaced.

An alternative might be to purchase a TFT monitor that takes a regular video input, like the Samsung ones.  Some now have S-Video and Composite video inputs and this should display the AGA screens well.

You mean a 19" TFT Monitor?
Well, my 15" TFT Iiyama can do only these three resolutions...
Don`t have enough money to buy a 19er flat :(

I have used an A1200 with the 'internal' Scan-Doubler (I forget who makes it, it clips onto a chip on the mobo, and a ribbon cable connects to a unboxed 'dongle' that plugs into the DB23 socket and provided a DB15 socket for a VGA monitor)  and have connected it to an IBM 640x480 12" LCD flat screen.

It flickered badly. There were dropped pixels all over the screen, fickering randomly on and off, a bit like snow that you get on a bad tv picture. My guess is that the Scan Doubler only doubles up to 29hz or whatever, and thats a bit too low for the screen.

The scan doubler works fine on any other CRT monitor however.

-Jar.

If you have a look at our MitacTFT Monitor review ( http://www.swaug.org.uk/mitac ) we tried it out on a SD/FF first then tested it on a graphics card.

I've got my 3000 (with its scan doubler) working on a Samsung SyncMaster 170MP (http://www.samsung.ca:3304/cgi-bin/nasecabc/en/b2c/product/product_detail.jsp?LoginFlag=NO?_id=GD17NSSS), and everything works fine.  The PIP works well.

My current screen resolution is 724x482 and the monitor scales up the screen, but I have the option to view the image at its regular resolution.

As for the issue of using 15mhz amigas with an LCD, I don't think you can do it  -you really need to be running a scan doubler.

Best of luck!

I dunno. LCD/TFT...what an anticlimax. Give me a nice, big fat tube with a quality mask / dot pitch any day :-D

I once used my external SD with a Sony SDM-N50 using PAL. Worked fine!

NEW QYESTION: I have a 17" LCD which I have connected to my CV64/3D. I try to set up the different resolutions using P96 but i cannot find the right settings for the monitor in 1280x1024. How on earth should I do this? I have tried more or less ALL settings possible to adjust.

If anyone have a nice setting, let me know. I have a Fujitsu Siemens S7 LCD Monitor.

Send me a email if you want too !

@palm
Use the settings in your manual... best place to start.
