there will be a live stream today, although the show is starting late due to, ahem, festivities lasting well into the morning and folks needing a later start.

anyway -- if you have a system capable of viewing streams from youtube, point your browser to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkjMuoXFBJc. the stream will start shortly, although will be unable to show the screening of viva amiga. a big thanks to mbrantley and tekmage for all their work!

We do need more stuff on the east coast.  Closest we had to an Amiga event was all the presenters up at VCF-X in NJ, a few months ago:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/oldsmobile_mike/sets/72157649734735584

(Amiga pics are mixed in, most are about halfway through that photoset)

(edit: I didn't realize my stupid descriptions show up when I send links this way, I should probably edit that, haha)

@All

What was Peter Cherna saying about "Intuition" code that Mike and so RJ never forgive him until now? (oxymoron somthing...)

A lot of former Amiga/CBM devs were presents, was all of them asked to come? I guess that if I was one of them I wouldn't ahve missed that event.

Thanks

Agree we definitely need more East Coast stuff to go to. I remember in the day when we had World of Commodore and AmiExpo both in Manhattan. Those were the days!

Love your pics though from the events, both of them.

Thanks for the shout out here about the VCFE-X exhibits that I was a part of. we're already thinking up ideas for next years exhibit. Long as both they and we still work, i think there will always be Amigas at VCFE

Guessing still no fixed video from day 1? Still has no audio for first 20 minutes. Or was that a recording problem? If the latter I hope someone can supply a recording of it and I'm sure someone can edit in the audio track to fix the missing one.

I may start looking around to see if anything is out there. Those of us unable to attend are hungry like a pack of wolves for this.

I love the talk of how Amiga was developed. Just amazing what they did back then with the tools they had. To see the Loraine and other dev models makes me wish I had been able to go.

What a party!!!

Incredible amount of Amiga founders present. Great conversations. Crazy amounts of beer consumed. I still can't believe we were not kicked out Saturday night... LOL.

Only Amiga makes it possible.

And that was just one of Dale Luck's treasures. He didn't bring the Amiga dev systems out that are in his trailer. Only a few of us got to see those precious artifacts.

Last night a bunch of us volunteers had pizza and beers at a joint near Dale's place. We closed the place down twice now. Beer was a requirement for many after the gruelling effort to load up the trailer full of Amiga gear. We had to be out of the museum at 20:00 and we just made it due to the sheer volume of Amiga stuff. Dale also collects pin ball machines and cars. It was just... wow.

@SSolie,

In the video (gourse) we see AmigaOS 3.5 and 3.9 does that mean that you also have H&P versions of it ? I thought Hyperion started from 3.1 source code.

After the close of Amiga 30 I went out for pizza and beer with a huge group of the guys from the show (special thanks and shout-out to Jackie Boys Pizza for staying open late for us and being so very hospitable) and one of the topics of discussion at our end of the table was trying to get something set up for the east coast.  Saturday I had a conversation with "dudeslife" from AtariAge about the lack of activity on our side of the country, and I know you and I discussed it a few times.  I'm very serious about getting something set up.  I'll have more information later.  I have a lot of people to contact, some good guidance from established events (AmiWest and ComVex, thanks guys!) and a piercing drive to actually have a show over here.  My best guess is within 24 months, the first 12 being getting established and the next 12 getting everything arranged.

I have been uploading to my gallery over on AtariAge (http://atariage.com/forums/gallery/album/1445-amiga-30/) which also includes what I believe to be an exclusive video of Peter Cherna booting and demonstrating the AA3000.  Thinking back, there may have been a guy to our left taking video, as well, but I am not certain at this point, so I'm going with the exclusive bit.

Yes, Cammie was there and I conversed with her for a short bit.  It was good to see her, for sure.  There's going to be a great picture at her site of David Needle picking her up!

On a personal note, Mike, I saw something which you might get a kick out of (http://www.teefury.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/269x400/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/g/a/gallery_115871_the-roller-derby-strikes-back.jpg).

NO SHYT??  I thought for sure that would be streamed!  Thank you "kickstartrom" for getting that.  Was any of the banquet streamed (I would assume sans the documentary?)

I'm looking forward to looking at all of the presentations from the show, again, and showing them to friend.

During the showing on Sunday the producer specifically asked that no video or even still-photos be taken of the documentary, since he's still working on distribution and final editing and whatnot.  It was really, really good though, I can't wait to buy a copy to show my girlfriend.  Maybe once I show it to her she'll understand my obsession with the Amiga?

Nah, who am I kidding, she'll never understand that.  But I still can't wait to buy a copy for myself!

I heard Dave Needle and a couple of guys grabbed Zack for a little while to iron out some chronological problems with the documentary.  That's actually pretty awesome and I think will make for an even better movie.  It's already 90 minutes, but I really hope that nothing gets taken out and it actually gets longer.  Those 90 minutes went by very fast and I was left wanting more.  Zack also said there are better graphics and rendering to be done for the final, but what's in it already looks really damn good.  I am definitely looking forward to its completion.

I'm lucky that my gf gets it.  Her dad used to run a comic shop and they went to the cons frequently and got to hang out with the likes of Todd McFarlane, and her take-away from those shows was the same as mine from Amiga 30.  I'm still working on my essay, I'm having to edit it a lot so it's not so fan-boyish and drool-filled :)

It's a shame the banquet wasn't streamed or otherwise recorded.  The round-table was great, as were the various stories.  Anyone who didn't well up even a little when Colin Proudfoot related the "Make-A-Wish" story, well, you simply must not have a soul.

Awesome.  So you're the Alabama guy I spoke to!

I was sitting with Colin Proudfoot, Anneke Leigh, and Allan Havemose at the banquet.  It was quite an honor.  I met another Amiga user and his wife -- I disappointingly cannot remember their names -- and we spoke for a while about Amiga, Commodore, and family.

One thing that struck me about the couple at our table was how his wife prodded him to talk more deeply about how the Amiga was such a part of his life, and smiled when she did so.  How amazing to have a spouse who encourages such a passion.

I'm going to watch all of these videos with my gf this weekend (though the 11 hours of presentations may be a little bit much for her, I'm going to watch all of them.)

Hey, you must be the Florida guy I met! Hehe. I was at the same table I think but sat down late in the front and pretty much needed to turn my back on everyone to see the stage. I hope someone recorded and posts Bill Hart's remarks .... I was out of storage media for video by that late in the evening. :( Bill told stories I had never heard before.

EDIT: I am uploading a photo gallery from show prep that was done at Dale Luck's house.... be back shortly with a link. I have lots of photos from the show that I will start editing and posting tomorrow if I can.

Here's my first set of photos from the Amiga 30th festivities in California this past glorious weekend....

http://www.thevideojunkie.com/Amiga30/showprep/

This is some behind-the-scenes show preparation going on in Dale Luck's back yard. Dale was one of the core OS engineers who helped create Amiga for us, and his home and yard and outbuildings and trailers and vehicles are LOADED with Commodore and Amiga history! It was a pleasure just being on the property!

Thank you, Dale, for giving me a Robocity poster from the 2nd Annual Developers Conference while everyone was packing up and clearing out of the Computer History Museum. I will get it framed and hang it in a place of honor in my home .... i.e., somewhere close to my Miggies. :)

I'll try to get some pictures from the show itself posted online tomorrow.

Hi. Now that would be something. Also the flights from Norway to New York aint that bad. I would come for sure. I would also come to the UK show and to the German show. Including! I would love to visit the Malaga show also.. but its difficult when I will become dad soon.

I have atleast gone to the event in Amsterdam. I see now how much better the other shows are organized. I think the one in Amsterdam kept the show from the Amiga event itself. But most important, I was there. I talked to Petro, RJ and Dave. I got my iBook signed by them ,.. So I am very happy indeed!

Nice to see that the California show went so great!

Here's my first set of photos from the Amiga 30th festivities in California this past glorious weekend....

Totally jelly, here... that would have been so much fun.

Thank you, Dale, for giving me a Robocity poster from the 2nd Annual Developers Conference while everyone was packing up and clearing out of the Computer History Museum. I will get it framed and hang it in a place of honor in my home .... i.e., somewhere close to my Miggies. :)

Oh, yeah.  I hung around to help out as much as I could.  Pretty much everyone who had a display set up was covered in so much as they knew exactly how they wanted it packed and were taking care of that part themselves, but after a while people started winding down so I was able to help with some of the heavy lifting and minutia.  Dale offered me one of the posters and I jumped -- I thought I was gonna pee myself.  All my stuff gets here Friday and the first thing I'm doing is hunting around for a reputable place to get it and a few other posters framed.

That and all of the clothes I hoarded toward the end of the show.  I got two of each thing I could: one to wear and one to put away.  I'm VERY excited as all of my official Amiga and Commodore stuff (including my beloved Q-Link t-shirt) have not aged well.

FABULOUS! Thanks to kickstartrom, and thanks for the notice.  I'm downloading these now.

God, am I the only one still giddy and riding high (metaphorically speaking) from this weekend?!

I would be, except I immediately got bombed with work the minute I stepped off the plane.  Story of my life, LOL.  :(

Just noticed you don't have a profile pic.  You should make it the one I took of you with the armloads of clothing!

Think I saw somewhere a proposed timeline for an east-coast Amiga show.  You know, the more I think about it the more I think Atlanta, which you mentioned, wouldn't be a bad idea.  Not only because of the international airport, but didn't Atlanta used to have a very large & active user's group back in the day?  Possible to locate any of the old AA members to assist?  Also, if you're looking at a 12-24 month timeline, hey, 2017 will be the 30th anniversary of the A500 and A2000.  You could bill it as a "30th anniversary for the A500", or something?  We could set up a bunch playing classic games, get some A500 devs and former game company folks to speak?  Anyhow, back to work for me now, keep up the good fight, sir!  :)

I wonder if there will be after.

Sorry, but I ran out of time for caption writing before my road trip tomorrow, but I will try to add some captions with IDs of the people and machines that I know when i get back from my trip. I don't know every name, so if I miss any we can always add those later. Enjoy!

Still in a great mood from this event..... love all these people and all these machines and all this software and everything. :) Makes me wish real hard there was a way for me and many others to make our livings in the Amiga realm.... but that's for some parallel universe where the train did not come off the tracks.

Not difficult to notice you when most people just wear something casual like a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

At what point did you realise you left the gauntlets and badge, on the way to the airport, halfway through the flight or when you unpacked?

Glad you had a good time over there.

I doubt you noticed, but my son (5 years old, spent most of Sunday dancing in front of the Mandala camera) was TOTALLY IN AWE OF YOU. He kept sneaking looks at you, and then whispering to me and Mom "look... she's a super hero!"

I suggested a couple times that he go up and say hi to you, but he was too shy. Oh well - maybe at the 40th Anniversary bash! :-)

So I manage to attend what I feel might be the last big Amiga show, if it was then we went out on a high, it was great to just walk around the show seeing and hearing voices you recognise from Amiga past and to see so many of the early prototype that have survived all this time is amazing.  Thank you to all the people involved making this show happen and thank you to so many of the original Amiga guys attending.

Also win a copy of Amiga Forever & C64 Forever 30th Anniversary edition, just comment on the youtube vid for your chance to win, I will pick a winner on Friday. thanks

From what I heard, ticket sales were in the 250's right up until a few days before the event, then it got a bunch of media attention and ticket sales went through the roof right before it started.  Well over 400.

This is just anecdotal, I have no idea the real number.  As an attendee, it was kind of a "madhouse" the first morning.  A fun madhouse, however!  :)

There was something about what RJ said that finally made the cogwheels align that made me see it clearly:
The Amiga was actually the first - and possibly last? - Rock'n'roll computer. The people are remembered, the machines are remembered, the software is remembered, and the legend will live on after the rest of us have been powered off and the red light has faded.
