NEW, Fast and Cheap Amiga using Amithon!
« on: March 15, 2002, 04:08:40 AM »
I was checking out this computer company called AccessMicro.  You can go there by using www.accessmicro.com.  They have this notebook called a 1 GIGA-PRO A900 VIA C3 667MHz for $665.00!!!  Just add AmigaXL/AmiTHON and you have a new fast Amiga - cheap and portable!  Check it out! :-D

Do you know if Amitholon will run on it?

From what I've heard many laptops are problematic.

Hmmmm. I couldnt surf to that URL - kept getting the all powerfull JANET splash screen (JANET is what all uni's hook up to the net through - or something). Did a quick dollar to stearling conversion - not a bad price. But the C3 is a real cheap budget chip - not as powerfull as a Duron. Comparable to the old AMD K6 (2)..... its ok for surfing, but throw gfx, dtp etc at it, and it'll die - my uncle has one in his machine.

Not only is this not news...it is an advertisement!  Yuck!  People should know better then to post such junk, and it has nothing to do with the Amiga.

Gotta do a bit of defending for the C3. It has an EXTREMELY low power usage keeping the battery lifetimetime longer... (even if the other components make a difference too.)

Yes, Amiga OS XL/AmiTHON does run on it pretty good!  The VIA c3 run more like a PIII cpu, but has both 3now! and MMX...and the graphic handling is pretty good!  I thought it was new worthy as those who can't wait until os 4.0, at least they can have some kind of Amiga to take around.  Come on people, it would help everyone if people bought the Amithon and use it!  Laters. :-D

i don't know, what situation is with this laptop, but my one, does not want to run amithlon... or maybe i put it that way: it runs on my laptop, but the video is displayed on external crt, not on lcd...  i tried manual (hardware) switching-nothing, i tried working with p96 settings, also nothing.  the notebook is runnig celeron 2 @ 1 Ghz, it is on sis630 chipset, so , if tere is someone , like me, who wanted Amiga on laptop... sorry, uae under linux, winuae under win, and AmigaOS XL under qnx (slow, and no sound :(( ). If someone managed to see Amithlon screen on lcd, PLEASE contact me, and if noone did it : be warned
 :-D

You (and people like you) need to lighten up.  If there is one thing I've learned over the last few days, if something can run AmigaXL/OS/DE/AA/juicer/carwasher/whatever, it is indeed related to the Amiga.

I furthermore suspect that after the recent announcements when we open our hardware section, the list of Amiga-compatible parts and materials has just grown exponentially.

If you want to sit here and argue that "it's not related to your Antique 030 setup", fine.  Have fun, but just realize the world of Amiga is now much more broad than the world of Commodore.

If I find a story which tells an Amiga user how he can run AmigaOS/XL/etc on a faster piece of hardware.... That's most certainly Amiga related whether you like it or not.

Maybe Wayne is right, I must admit when I first saw this news arcticle I rolled my eyes.

However.

Has someone bought one of these and verified that Amithlon will run on it? If so then I suppose this could be a news item and H&P or Mr Meyer should add it to a compatability list.

If this hasn't been verified, I'd hate to think someone would read this news article, buy one of these laptops to find out Amithlon doesn't work on it. I doubt AccessMicro would refund because an Amiga emulator failed to work.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I'm telling you folks.  I have one of these notebooks with the VIA C3 and Amiga OS XL/AmiTHON does run on it!  All the devices work on it, sound, video, cdrom, 10/100 network card and 56k modem.  However the udb obviously does not work with Amiga OS, (yet), but its fast, cheap and gives you a portable amiga screen.  Its a good value in my opinion.  The notebook is made by ECS, the Elite Group.  Laters. :-D

Actually, if I read the site correctly, you still need to pay another $60 to get a battery for that laptop.
