3DFX Voodoo 5500 PCI - Dual GPU Graphics Card
« on: June 14, 2005, 06:08:47 PM »
Works perfect in a Mediator with Warp3D and Picasso96.

It will also work perfectly in an uA1 with the latest AmigaOS4 Update 3.

Genuine reason for sale, I only want what I paid for it 2 months ago.  Which was £65 + postage.

I'll send to anywhere in the world.

PM me for more details.

Gjeses! I have 2 that doesn't do much of anything atm... it's for backups in case my Voodoo3 3000 and 2000 fails. Only payed 10£ a pop for them so you surely got screwed on that one.

no doubt.
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

The Amiga driver only use one of the GPU's and since the memory is split between the two GPU's the Amiga only use 32Mb of the 64Mb available... has to do with the fact that the Amiga driver are made for the Voodoo3 and only works with Voodoo4/5 cause the hardware is made to be backward compatible. There are other issues with the Voodoo4/5 card on the Amiga aswell such as none working screenmodes with low colordepth. The bottleneck is the Amiga not the Voodoocard so the speed should be virtually the same on Voodoo3 as with Voodoo4/5.

I have a Voodoo3 3000 in my A4000T... got a Voodoo3 2000 and Voodoo5 5500 just collecting dust in case the first card goes boom. Got another Voodoo5 5500 in my lowend PC at the club. All PCI of cause.

I payed 10£ a pop for the Voodoo5 5500 card... about 7£ a pop for the Voodoo3 3000 and 2000.

I can tell that the Voodoo3 3000 is faster than the Voodoo5 5500, probably because the drivers(as you said Brian) is made for Voodoo3. It actually is noticeable faster.  :-)
Mainframe: Amiga 3000 Tower, CSPPC233/060, 144+2MB, 36GB UW, Prometheus, Voodoo5 5500, 10Mbit, 24xCDr, OS 4.0 ....Amiga since 1987.

Same is true with 4500; I think the 2D hw acceleration doesn't work on 4500 or works badly (Prometheus driver).

The Voodoo 5500 is noticibly faster than my Voodoo 3000 using the Elbox Mediator driver.

on the pc where the voodoos is the bottle neck of a modern system, the voodoo3 is faster then a Voodoo4 and voodoo5 in single gpu mode (although you can overclock the v4/v5 for sure to give the neccessary boost to overtake ;)

On miggy though while I get exact same fps from both voodoo3 and voodoo5, the v5 does somehow display those frames much smoother, it almost matches the speed of the bvision.

lack of any real 2d acceleration in p96 makes the voodoo on mediator abit of a chore compared to cgxv4 and bvision. :|

Voodoo is abit annoying as v3 doesnt support 15bit modes (fair few things seem to use them - especially w3d amigaamp plugins) and voodoo5 doesnt work in bigendian modes (bad colours - cant play wo2097).  Bvision is best solution as it supports both and is a fair bit faster too :|  I really would like to try the voodoos on a grex oneday and compare the speeds, as CGFXv4 does support 2d acceleration and the lack of zorro-ii bottle neck should allow ppc/W3d run at the processors max speed.
