Can you still get those parallel port mp3 decoders? Get one of those and your only cpu load is transferring the data to them.

Why does someone not write a driver for the MP3@64?  It is built for the Amiga style clock port but AFAIK only has C64 support at this time.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

@Wol

as already said (me and others) you can't decode FULL quality Stereo MP3 (44100) with a 040.

@Redrumloa

The MP3@64 works on the amiga clockport too, Chris Hodges of Poseidon fame wrote a driver for it.

68040@40 with Paula and AHI can play mp3 file (128k) at 44khz in mono with about 80% of cpu load.

"Easily enough" as in reduced sound quality settings and with 99% CPU usage?

Your not wrong about the CPU usage, I wouldn't be using the miggy at the same time for anything else. :-(

I had no problems using a 1260 @50mhz with songplayer and surfing at the same time.

Using a BPPC160 with Tunenet under OS4 can be jittery if I try to do too much.
Aminetradio was less so with just the 1260.

So it just shows how important the software can be.

Well, I think I'll leave my 64bit M$ PC playing mp3s while I do fun stuff with my 040 1200! :)
Doesn't really matter where the sound is coming anyway.
Haven't bought my 040 accelerator to listen to mp3's anyway! :)

Heitor.
