Hello!
« on: March 13, 2023, 01:24:24 PM »
Hi everyone!

I'm new here! - I started using the Amiga when I was a kid, we had an Amiga 1000. After almost 22 years of faithful service, our A1000 died and my Dad recycled it. I now have an A500 which I have put in an ATX case. I got the motherboard and power supply which was (unknown condition) and I ended up getting it working and it is now in a semi-vintage ATX tower.

My name is Josh, but everyone calls me either Zvend or Polar Bear (That's my nick name)... If anyone wants to know why I'm called that, I'm happy to tell the story  :)

Looking forward to my time here!

It was great to see an Amiga 1000 in Season 4 of Stranger Things even with the weird green and black colour scheme for the Workbench GUI! I'm glad it gave you 22 years of service! Welcome to Amiga.org. I'm sorry it's a bit sleepy here of late!

Hi everyone!

Wanted to share a photo of my A500T - You can see a card attached to the back, that's a card I built with the power input, power switch and some other ports. I added the Amiga text to the front. That's an older Compaq ATX case from (2000? / 2001).

Is it PAT tested (Potable Appliance Testing - a UK test to prevent fire risk through fraying wires, wear and tear etc)?  :o

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. However, the Regulations do not specify what needs to be done, by whom or how frequently (ie they don't make inspection or testing of electrical appliances a legal requirement, nor do they make it a legal requirement to undertake this annually).

Heh, slap a sticker on it :)

Okay so the nick name, lol

Several years ago about March / April I was at a friend's house, and he has an above ground pool. He told me that the pool was clean but very very cold. But if I wanted to swim I could. So I did... It was 50-49F - So very cold. I got in and swam for about an hour. I got out and came in the house and he started calling me Polar Bear. And the name stuck, and everyone started calling me that. Also, the name "Zvend" comes from my heritage - I'm over half-Norse, - Danish, Norwegian and also North German. I spell it "Zvend" (The German way), not "Svend" the more Nordic version. Why? I just like the way it looks Z instead of the letter S. Also it's a nod to my North German heritage as well.
