Hum... A quick hack would be to solder a DB9 with wires inside a new controller.  Just respect the pinout of each direction and buttons.

This is not optimal if you own a 10 button gamepad but... It's better than nothing.

The issue with bulding such a device is to emulate the host instead of the endpoint. USB joysticks are not equally made... This means that there would be a lot of incompatible device... :(

I did this a few years ago with a Logitech Wingman gamepad.  Soldered a DB-9 connector to it.  I can use the Wingman on its own or plug in any old 9-pin joystick.  Works great.

I think the Wingman was $2.99 from a Thrift store.  The DB-9 connector I salvaged from some old piece of electronics.
Music I've made using Amigas and other retro-instruments: http://theovoids.bandcamp.com

My adapter just arrived and I've just finished giving it a good workout on WinUAE and VICE and it works perfectly on both, with no noticeable latency!

What a difference using my favourite old joystick (an Atari CX-24) rather than the PC keyboard - it was just like being 15 again! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Is it possible to connect an Amiga mouse and use it as generic USB mouse with AEROS & other Pi OSes?

Yes, indeed! :)

I got the retro usb atari version. I can't recommend that one. The quality is poor, mine came with bent pins.

Plus I don't think it transfers a digital signal, you need to calibrate the joystick (rotate it around etc.)

Is this one full digital?

Yes, it is fully digital and quality is assured by myself, thoroughly tested before shipping. :juggler:

Hi there,
I'm just doing a little poll here.

I've been ask by a growing number of members that if I could build an opposite device; USB Joystick to DB9 compatible adapter.

That would enable current gaming joysticks/pads to work with original hardware like ATARI, C64, AMIGA machines.

Just write in this tread if you would be in or out for a product like this.

Thanks!!

:bump: Greetings!

I'm working on the prototype. This is less easy than I've thought.
Generating a valid USB signal is not an easy task!

I'll post technical stuff later on.

 Stay tuned!

Hey Guys! This is it.

I just received the first batch of USB Joystick adapters, PCB version 3.0.
This new version is supporting virtually any DB9 joystick ever made!
Just use the flash utility to reprogram as desired.

Here is the compatibility list:

•Atari 2600 Joystick
•Atari 7800 Joystick (2 buttons)
•Atari analog Paddle (2 controllers)
•Atari video touch pad Keyboard
•Amstrad Joystick
•Amiga Joystick (up to 3 buttons)
•Amiga Mouse (up to 3 buttons)
•Commodore 64 Joystick
•Commodore CD32 Joypad (7 buttons)
•Coleco Vision Controller
•Intellivision Touch pad (16 buttons)
•MSX Joystick
•Sega Genesis Joypad (3 and 6 buttons)
•Sega Master System Joypad (2 buttons)
•3DO Joypad

This new hardware version was designed with compatibility in mind. Every pin is reconfigurable so new firmware can be built to support much more devices.
Design will stay open source so anybody out there can contribute to this quest for retro gaming pleasure!

You can order them directly on the web site at www.retronicdesign.com or by sending me a PM request here.

Cheers!

Nitz

How difficult would it be to provide support for the TI-99/4 and 4A controllers? In any case, I'll be picking up a couple over the weekend.  Really cool!
