Yep, I saw the firmware was modifiable, I wasn't sure if it was physically capable of bidirectional comms, for on other reason than curiosity.

If you are a coder, yup, this is thinkable. The module is endlessly reconfigurable. Only limitation is the pins I decided to bring out of the board.

There will be another board for "enthousiasts" that I will sell in the next year. This one will have a lot of IO but no nice packaging.  I would call it USB GPIO. It will respect the V-USB concept.

USB Joystick Adapter for 9 pin joysticks & CD32
« Reply #16 on: January 14, 2013, 05:43:20 AM »
Hello there!

The adapter now support the CD32 joypad. You can reflash your adapter with the special firmware to support it:

Cheers!

This might be the stupidest question you've ever had, but would it possible for this device to work in reverse with the appropriate gender changers (allow a usb mouse to work on an amiga)?

I know this one does not, but would it be difficult to make one that does ?
It would be of great use to us to be able to use USB joysticks and joypads on Amigas.

Hum... A quick hack would be to solder a DB9 with wires inside a new controller.  Just respect the pinout of each direction and buttons.

This is not optimal if you own a 10 button gamepad but... It's better than nothing.

The issue with bulding such a device is to emulate the host instead of the endpoint. USB joysticks are not equally made... This means that there would be a lot of incompatible device... :(

Oh, by the way, there is a new firmware update available on the website: http://www.retronicdesign.com/en/download/

This update is fixing few small bugs on PC and Amiga NG platforms. See website for more details.

I also confirm compatibility with the Raspberry PI Platform.

Cheers! :drink:

It's easier to use playstation pads and there are already interfaces that allow those AFAIK.

USB host mode is harder because most mcu's are designed for USB client mode, but it is possible to do it. Whether anyone will do it is another matter.

Nintendo and Super Nintendo pads are also pretty easy to interface with a small microcontroller. All buttons are polled in a serial manner over a data pin.

Is it possible to connect an Amiga mouse and use it as generic USB mouse with AEROS & other Pi OSes?

I got the retro usb atari version. I can't recommend that one. The quality is poor, mine came with bent pins.

Plus I don't think it transfers a digital signal, you need to calibrate the joystick (rotate it around etc.)

Is this one full digital?

It's theoretically possible, but I don't know if anyone has actually done it.

I kinda doubt it, real amiga mice are pretty rubbish. Everyone is trying to use new mice on Amiga's

Thanks for bringing this thread back to the main page - I must've missed it last time around.

I've just ordered one!

Cheers,

Mike.

I did this a few years ago with a Logitech Wingman gamepad.  Soldered a DB-9 connector to it.  I can use the Wingman on its own or plug in any old 9-pin joystick.  Works great.

I think the Wingman was $2.99 from a Thrift store.  The DB-9 connector I salvaged from some old piece of electronics.
