V2 USB Interface for Classic Computer Keyboards
Revised new edition of the popular Keyrah interface
Keyrah V2 is the revised version of the very popular Keyrah interface (http://www.vesalia.de/d_keyrah.htm). Keyrah V2 allows you to connect the keyboards of classic computer systems to modern computers via USB. It also supports digital joysticks of such classic systems, translating the joystick events to key strokes. The list of the supported classic systems has almost remained the same:
- Commodore 64 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_C64.HTML) (all models)
- VIC-20 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_VC20.HTML)
- C-128 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_C128.HTML)*
- C-128D (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_C128D.HTML)*
- C-16 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_C16.HTML)
- C-116 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_C116.HTML)**
- Plus/4 (http://www.zock.com/8-Bit/D_Plus4.HTML)**
- Amiga 1200 (http://www.vesalia.de/e_a1200.htm)
- Amiga 600
What's new?
Unlike the old Keyrah interface that required you to choose between the different supported computer families, Keyrah V2 comes in a single version that works with all systems. It also supports both German and English keyboard layouts, so this distinction is also history. Keyrah V2 provides a jumper that lets you choose the desired configuration, you can either set it to 8-Bit with German keymap, 8-Bit with US keymap, or Amiga.
* There are no longer connectors fitted for the Commodore 128/128D, but those can be added if necessary (soldering required).
** There are also no connectors for the Plus/4 and C-116, those can also be fitted (PCB modification and soldering required).
Keyrah V2's new switch still allows you to switch between the standard and the emulation keymap (just like the old Keyrah did), and it still looks like the original power switch when built into a Commodore 64. Now there's a third switch position that allows you to send an ACPI signal to shut down/power up your computer. To avoid triggering the shutdown procedure by accident, this third position is not locked, so the switch will always flip back from it if not held in place. (The ACPI signal is only sent after remaining one second in this position.)
Please note: USB cable not included.

Having connectors for the A600 and A1200 ribbons is an improvement over the previous setup.

I am so happy to see this ...

Funnily enough I was just looking at this because I'm entertaining the idea of making a keyboard.
Where do you get the A1200 ribbon connectors from?
-
Is it just me or are these interfaces kind of pointless?
The only reason I can see you might want one is if you wanted to build either a UAE/AROS PC and use a real big box Amiga keyboard or if you wanted to stick some kind or PC into an old A500 case and pretended it's the real thing.
Are they the only reasons to buy this interface or am I missing something here?

Nova
Its also for guys that like the feel of old skool keyboards and want to use digital joysticks from atari/amiga era on their pc.

My keyrah has arrived, but the instructions and web seem to make no mention of attaching it to a plus4 keyboard!
All the sites says is "connector must be fitted and pcb modification required"
I took this to mean, just solder the connector from a plus4 mb in the correct place.
I have done this, but it doesn't work :-( I note on the keyrah pcb it says "cut here for installation in a non c64 case. I have no idea what this means!
My question: has any one fitted a keyrah to a plus/4 please? Or know how to? Thanks for your help!

You will have better luck emailing Jens thru his icomp.de website, or Amigakit via email to their support department.

I really like how they made the switch and joystick ports align like those on a C64 motherboard so that it would look like the original from the outside.
