Installing Louise GCC
« on: November 19, 2002, 02:01:44 AM »
I'm trying to install Louise's GeekGadgets GCC package on WinUAE, however the hard disk file does not appear to be bootable.  When I load WB using the floppy I can see that the hard file contains lots of goodies and everything appears to be in order, but when booting it brings me immediately to the DOS prompt screen without even entering the startup sequence.  Does anyone have any ideas about how to slove this?  I'm using Amiga Forever, with WinUAE 0.8.22R1.

Thatnks for the ideas, but I am already using WinUAE 0.8.22R1 with 8 meg RTG mem.  I have two PCs that I'm trying to use this on.  One is at work and the other is at home.  The one at work won't boot as described, but when I tried it at home gcc.hdf booted perfectly.  I don't get it sometimes.

I'm using the same kickstart images on both machines.  The kick31.rom that comes with Amiga Forever 5.  I redownloaded the archive to be sure that it was complete and the same things happens.  I can boot into Workbench with a floppy and view the contents of the hard disk and everything appears to be in order, but it will still not load directly from the hard disk on my work machine.   :-?

Thanks all for the help.  I finally figured it out after reading pjhutch's comment.  I checked to make sure that the boot device had all the correct derectories to boot and everything and it turns out that it did not!  Somehow I have selected Window's C drive as the boot device and so naturally it wouldn't boot.  Once I set the hardfile as the boot device it went perfectly.  Thanks for all your help.

You can find the archive here.  It's a link at the very top of the page.
