Just stopping in to say hello. Trying to refresh my old memories of the Amiga. I also placed up a classic Amiga BBS running CNet Pro. Would like to welcome everyone to check it out. http://telnet://bbs.dxrw.org
Here is a little background on it...
Clarksville Tennessee has a nick name of the Queen City. In 1991 on a C=64 Queen City BBS was born. It survived as it grew to the C=128 then an A1000 then an A500 before its death in 1995 when AOL (those bastards) got the internet kick going. Then in 2003, Queen City was Re-Born! Running the Classic CNet BBS and it lasted for about 2 years. Now in 2010 its renamed and back up for business and housed in Dover, TN. Running on an Commodore Amiga emulator and running the classic CNet Pro v3.05c BBS program. RoF has Message bases, games and warez! Please join Reign of Fire BBS.

Nice to see another BBS up. Just wondering, any idea where a guy can pick up the latest version of CNet? I've heard it runs fine on OS 4.1, but I've tried multiple times over the past year to contact the author to buy the latest CNet and have not got so much as a reply. I'm an old Cnet v3.x sysop but can't find my old Cnet disks, not that they'd help me much on the floppy diskless SAM I have. Currently running a mix of Zeus and DLG BB/OS on my BBS, but they have some ugly issues with 4.1 :/
Thanks, will have to check your system out asap! Seems a lot of us old BBS junkies are getting back into running systems.

Awesome! Welcome back online! I will check in with you when I get in from work!
-
I'll telnet in from my A1200 tonite as well.
-
I will try to get all of ya'll access as soon as I can. Its good to know my new board will have members soon. As for CNet, I am also trying to get the latest copy. I have someone trying to kick the door down on getting it released again... Window of Illusion BBS & Web Site (http://woibbs.org/)
I am off to work, hope to be giving access to a lot of new members when I get back home tonight!
-
Good work, having just bought an A2065 for my A2000 I should be online with my Amiga pretty soon (as soon as I can find time to set it up!). So will be sure to check it out.
-
I would also like access :) Could have some fun ^^

How are you running networking on the Amiga emulator?
And, which emulator?
Cheers,
Matt.

Ok, I got 10 new users while I was out to work. Thanks everyone. I hope more keep calling so I can add more nodes. I will be adding a lot to the BBS, so come watch it grow!!

I am using WinUAE. I owned two Amigas in the past, and one day when I can get back on my feet, I will own one again. Until then, I am using WinUAE, CNet/3 and Telnetd.device to take calls. Hope to see ya on there soon!

Mind if I visit from my linux box until I can get my amiga online?

That was great, i didn't go through the entire registration process, but it sure reminded me of the old days on the BBS's!
BTW, I ran a BBS back in 1985, on an Atari 800, using a 300bps modem that didn't even have it's own ring detector - the ring detector was home built and when it discovered a ring, simulated pressing the 'fire' button on the joystick port.
hah, you'd think I was such a big computer geek that I went into IT right away, but I didn't...for some odd reason I put computers away for quite a few years.
Of course that'll never happen again :)
p.s. it was "The Free World BBS" out of Springfield, Mo, woo hoo!
-
Runequester, I don't care what you use to call. Having active users is just what SysOp's like!!!
MarkTime, you should finish registering. Check out the on-line games... got some good ones like Wheel of Fortune, Empire and TradeWars. I even got some Fred Fish CD's on-line.

Wait a min...
I am using WinUAE.
Ban please.

I would love to own a new Amiga, but I can't afford it. No place to put it in my small trailer. Donations are always welcomed! You should see the INFO file on my BBS. :)

That is really cool. Ah, the mystery and fun of entering a spooky BBS!
-
Hope to see you and the rest of ya visit quite often! :)
Looking for an X-CNet SysOp to help me out as the Co-SysOp at RoF. Apply on Reign of Fire BBS.
-
I registered on your bbs. Its nice to see a c-net board up again. I'd like to check out the file libraries you have when I get more time.

yikes, registration was pretty extensive.
Taking a bit to get used to how it works. This is really my first step into "yesteryear" and BBS's but its pretty exciting stuff :)

Again, thanks for taking the time and registering. I am being as quick as I can with giving everyone access. Just hope you return and put the old CNet Pro BBS to use.
I made sure there was some good message bases, and some of those classic door games. Also, I placed the Fred Fish CD's designed for BBS's on-line. Come check it out!

We had some issues, and there were some down times. Need help now with callers giving the BBS a good workout. We had a good growth of almost 40 members. Just need for most of them to continue to call back daily!

I just registered. Having a little trouble getting the colors right using NCOMM, I have disabled the workbench pallette, can anyone suggest a color config? or maybe an alternative to NCOMM?

Great news :)
However i am not familiar with BBS, as i didn't have a modem in the old days.
Could you explain a bit how to connect to a BBS nowadays (DSL-LAN connection)? Any specific software to use?
-
Use a telnet program, and yes... DCTelnet works great.
-
10 years later and we are still up. The address may have changed, but the BBS thrives and is like no other!
