A1200 . 2 questions
« on: April 27, 2014, 01:37:58 AM »
I am thinking of removing the RF Shield - which seems to be accepted practice . If I do, how should I support my CF Card? Currently it's resting on a piece of cardboard taped to the RF Shield. I wouldn't want anything resting on the MOBO.

Also, is it normal to hear the Floppy drive clicking every second or two ?

 Thanks, Peter

What you are doing is probably fine.  I've seen some people use double sided foam sticky tape.   That seems to work well..
I taped a bit of plastic stuff (piece of a sheet of something??) I had lying around to the bottom of the card.  But I still have my RF shield there, so it's not quite the same..

Yep, you can look into "noclick" if you want to stop that..

The original alternatiye to the CF card was a HDD for which there is a metal "cradle" that helps to also support the keyboard -- ask in the marketplace section.  The clicking sound of the FDD has many  software solutions due to the number of users annoyed over the past 29 years.

Wouldn't worry about a cradle. Just make something with household items, tape/plastic/cardboard.

The RF Shield is a waste of space.

The floppy drive clicking is to me an Amiga. Love that noise, wouldn't be an Amiga without it.

It would be an Amiga, just a quiet one.

True, but it needs the click. Even have it on with the floppy emulator. To me it wouldn't be the same.

It's right up there with the power led going off with some games ;-)

Have an floppy emulator ready for the A500. Have a real FDD in the A1200 tower as Amiga hardware I've bought still insist on supplying the driver/software on floppy disk :-/
